Hi guys this is the rebuild thread for my old 350LC.
IIRC it was put away after dieing on my just once to many times and I could figure out what was up
she pulled apart with big plans of rebuild with a RGV swinger and rear wheel etc.
this was back in 1993 And thats the way it stayed in till christmas when I got my arse in gear (and a ok from the Mrs)
Anyway the bike it was pile shit when I got it in 89
It was only bought as a get to work bike to save my nice new TZR250 (still have it) from the winter salt fest.
I'd had a 250LC before the TZR so knew LC's inside out. over the next few years I repanted it tarted it up
treated it to harrison 4 piston front brake to replace the terrible Lockhead caliper and fitted many many pistons.
and thats how she looked at the end.
fast forward to January

The motor turned over no problem but looks well rough
The crakcases have snapped chain damage (nothing to with me)
so I've got a new set 4L1 but whatever
it was only after looking back at the pix I took of the motor on the workmate I think I sussed why it packed up

Is that fork brace made from MDF? Good luck with the build, looks like a lot of work but worth it. Alex

Just out of curiosity, what parts did you buy from Yambits ? Dusty Er fork tubes/dust caps, switch gear decals, air box gaskets, gear lever, new sidestand, grab rail bolts and rubbers. TZR250 master cylinder repair kit. brake shoes. needle roller swing arm kit.
and a few little bits n bobs.

I only ask as some Shambits parts get a bad reputation on here. One member had a sidestand snap after 10 minutes of the bike being leant on it, and crank seals have failed with less than 1000 miles on them. Most of the bits you've bought shouldn't be of concern, but better you know in advance. Dusty

Cheers dusty yeah since being on here I've seen the reputation they have and to be fair the needles bearings in the swing arm kit are rubbish

So the yambits needle roller swing arm kit has proved to as shit as everyone expected
I knew the rollers bearings them selves looked crap, the needles had no cages and just sat in pressed tin outer race this was at best a interference fit.
And as a result when I used a draw bolt to pull them in, the outers deformed and spat the needles everywere.
so a new kit has been purchased this time a quality item (hopefully) from Japan and should be with me by the tomorrow.
you live and learn

The frame has been powdercoated
The new swingarm bearings were a great fit vastly superior the yambits crap. it actually came with radial bearings to fit on the end of the swingarm so take any side load too, which I like the ideal of. sadly I dont know how but I stripped the threads on stainless pivot bolt so i'm gonna have to order another.
Work has now moved to cleaning up the alloy on the wheels they look better in the pix than in reality
antique tyres must be worth something

So many layers of paint on the front wheel its been white and red before going back to black. and rubbish 21st century paint stipper is next to useless. I had to buy some from a mate in the painting and decorating business to even touch it.
hopefully I can get the rest off tomorrow

I agree with you about modern paintsripper mate!, bought some a while back, which wouldn’t touch the brush paint on my brake bar. Luckily I found some nitromors (probably 1990’s vintage), in the back of the shed which did the trick!. Your wheels are looking great, good luck with the rest of the project 👍🏻.

Cheers Bezzer I think it's to protect the snowflakes from hurting themselves with it
The wheels are finally cleaned and have come up pretty good, I do love the italic design wheels
But I never want to have to that again

And finally the wheels are painted I'm going to let the paint harden then fit new bearings and seals.
gotta say it was a pain in the arse the masking alone was like pulling teeth

It may have been like pulling teeth, but well worth the effort - they look superb mate 👍🏻
