Looking good Alex Love this thread and all the supporting comments from the team. The best thing about building a special is you have to make everything, nothing straight off the shelf This will turn out great John

Cheers John. I do love this build and yes pretty much everything has to be fabricated to some point! I just need to rebuild the carbs and the engine should be ready to rock n roll.

Every little thing that you complete is one step closer to it being completed. Enjoying the build and nice to see something different.

Looking good Alex, the pipes will look great when they're on. Cool project and well done for all the efforts and sorting of problems.

Thanks everyone. It's encouragement like this that keeps me going! I finished one exhaust today but that BBQ paint takes an age to cure...then it'll get a coat of high heat lacquer to give it a more satin finish. I even dug out a set of Allspeed decals for that finishing touch lol.

One exhaust all done and back on the bike. I am chuffed with the way it turned out! Alex

Thats a great transformation.
Why not cut off the mount and weld a tab on the top of the belly where the footrest lower bolt is instead of those clamps? whos rubber i fear might melt once the bike is running. That would look very neat when done.

Great work on the pipe Alex I agree with Jon though. The bracket on the pipe would be better welded on further back to pick up a mounting point on the frame. I don't think the set up you have will be rigid enough in use. Ideally get the engineering done before you spray/polish bits to save doing it all again afterwards. Not being critical - just trying to save you work/grief later on Dusty

Yep the brackets will get removed and placed further forward. The P clips are just temporary!

Got some more done. Had a think about the foot rests and where the pipes need to mounted. I reckon once some correct size tabs are welded onto the frame for the foot rest mounts the exhausts will bolt onto the foot rest hangers. Then a bargain rev counter arrived. Dented but all fixable... I took the steering damper off the Popsicle, that idea was doomed from the start, and I'll use it on this bike. I have ordered a mount to clamp onto the fork. Then exhaust #2 was ready to go on... And this is how she looks now! The twin shock idea is back. A bit of strengthening on the frame mounting points and some tabs welded onto the swinger...should work. Alex

Gathering pace now Alex
Taking shape and looking great. Long and low should keep the front end down on those fast take offs (maybe!!!)

Fast take offs pmsl. The idea is for me and some lads from here to hit Santa Pod at one of those 'run what ya brung' days and just have a hoot on it. If she goes bang we fix her...not that hard to do! Then maybe some tuning or a 400 top end (not cheap) and try again. She has the mounts for a radiator already there so a LC or PV lump could go in...now that idea I really like! Footrests are from a YZF-R 125 as are the swinger and both wheels Alex

Thanks Steve! Getting there... Got my throttle cable from Norbo (ta matey) Then carried on with the rev counter repairs... Job done! Alex

My mount for the steering damper turned up so I loosely assembled it... Now that should work! Then the new exhaust tips needed fitting. Called for some drastic surgery. I also got a new rear brake pedal. Turns out they are cheaper than used ones! And my billet foot rests can finally see some action... Almost at the stage when I can try to start her. Few electrical bits needed and the carbs rebuilt but that's about it! Alex

Thanks everyone. For me this has been my fastest build ever and I've done quite a few...I just want her up and running with working brakes (always helps I find...) and then hopefully we can do the Santa Pod thing. Then maybe come Autumn I'll tear her all down and get things finished properly, like the frame etc, get some lights on her and go get an MOT... Alex

Respect there Alex. You are cracking on with this and still dipping in and out of the other projects too. Well done matey. This will be really nice when finished and I am positive it will be a real head turner at the Pod and on the road too. You will need to get a vid uploaded when you get her running as those pipes will sound magic! John

So close to firing this engine up now. Thanks to Merv (A/C forum) I got this... Cheers mate! Wasn't fussed about the condition as I just wanted it to hold the throttle tube in place. A little refurb and... ...ready to go on. With that done and the cable from Norbo in place I just need some carbs. I'm getting a 'loaner' set and as soon as they arrive I'll attempt to get the motor running...but I won't be heading out onto the highway just yet. A front brake might come in handy and of course I need the footrest tabs welded on and the shock mounts too. Then, apart from some paint, she'll be ready for Santa Pod! Alex
