Is a Banshee case very similar then or a lot of differences ? I started thinking I 'needed' some Banshee cases after a few kept saying how much stronger and deeper this section was. After looking at my spare set, (3CE) Found it hard to see much difference. This thread has highlighted the possible 'need' for them, but as for much more added strength etc, its only a couple off mm bigger as you've seen.

The Banshee cases are very similar. Pretty sure they don't run a rev counter shaft and gear assembly so when you retro fit one out an lc or ypvs you have to drill and tap a new bolt hole for the retaining plate. It holds the shaft in place. Also the rev counter cable housing again has to be retro fitted, the casing hole that it goes in has a bung in it that has to be easily removed. Pretty simple really.

Surprised no one else has chipped in as there’s loads of these top ends on bikes now. I think most people didnt see it as a huge issue and just glued em in once they were happy with the fit. Martin contacted me by PM and my info is on my 2smoked website as mentioned. The fact they stick out a bit was fine with me, it helped them mushroom and make a fit I felt. If you go on www.2stroked.com you will see his 421 build with pics of the cases he used, they are the narrow edge type. Good source of info. He's on here regularly as Jonw. Thanks for the kind words, its 2SMOKED.COM tho in case anyone is feeling the need to go and have a look. FWIW Im back working on this bike after it was fully stripped, its now getting a new strengthened frame and other goodies

Now stranger than I thought I thought it would be an early/late casing mod so went back through my old pictures The pic is my n1 31k cases which were a late registered model 1985 model, late 1986 registered and they do have the notch for carbs but not the extra barrel area There must have been 2 different companies making them in different casts. Also wouls explain why some have the hole under the sprocket and some don't Steve Steve, I wouldn’t have thought 2 different companies made the cases. Not to mention the tooling costs to setup 2 manufacturers, why would one do it differently to the other. Surely they’d both follow what Yamaha wanted? If you think about the matching numbers thing, they must have been stamped late on in the build. My guess would be a few earlier cases still in stock got stamped after the introduction of the new style case. Jon

Yes I ended up having to do the same but I rubbed the loose bungs down on some flat sand paper
Did you put it in dry and hard LOL or used some sealant ?

Just in dry at the minute, as I need to give the cylinders a good wash and paint. I’m sure they will be fine once fitted, i’m Using the correct crankcases. If you’re using correct crankcases and gaskets are the bungs really required? Jess

Good question I have the correct cases but will still use the bungs Still can't believe Athena doesn't machine this area correctly
Dropped stuff at powder coaters this morning so that engine will be going in soon !

Yep Dremelled mine and had to trimmed the bungs then siliconed them in. They did sit proud but once bolted down that also helped squish and seal them down. My cases are the thin front edged ones(31k/LC2). Running it in at the moment and no leaks, so all good on that front.
Mark.

I've just got myself an Athena kit, but there isn't any bungs in it, are they supposed to come with the kit, or do you get them separately? Cheers
