Still gobsmacked here. And loving the choice of swinger Mark. Alex ps do you have any more cylinder head studs? I'm missing one also! Still available from Yamaha, if your stuck. Sit down for the price though @ £12.60. Jon

First up, the extended gearshift shaft grafted onto the LC claw. 14mm diameter and is long enough to clear the YPVS left cover that I'm using.

This is the rear left cover that I'm using
SDC11539
And the front left cover

SDC11543
Cut up with an angle grinder
SDC11544
Die grinding starts
SDC11545
The rear left cover scribed in and cut to shape, gearshaft checked as well
SDC11547
The front cover finished

Just for a little added suspense I reckon you should've posted the the cut up side casing this week then left the finished article till next week, and possibly add a sound clip of the EastEnders (falling down the stairs) music after the post LOL.
Seriously, Tidy work on the casings Keep up the good work

Diverting a bit, a while back, I bought a new fuel tank and had to install a second fuel tap. So, I made a plate and had it welded to the new tank
SDC11473
Once welded, I drilled out the oval section and fixing holes and then tapped ready for the fuel tap fixing screws
SDC11474
Next, back to the engine, I removed the oil seal on the top of the crankcase for the clutch arm
SDC11535
Blind bearing puller installed
SDC11536
And the bearing removed
SDC11537
Lastly, I installed the left engine covers and the clutch cover to get an idea of the width of the engine. It's like a CBX! - Bonkers
SDC11549

My first comment on this thread Mark. You are certainly not a man who shys away from challenges. Loved the triple and this is looking every bit as good (and difficult!) in every way Judging by the comments so far, I am not the only one who thinks this too Eagerly looking forward to your next updates

My swing arm came back from Nigel (NK Racing), bang on time- brilliant job It's 220mm wide at the pivot .
SDC11551
SDC11552
So no spacers required, I can use the standard LC shock, and top mount. The swing arm pivot bolt can be used from an A/C Yam.
SDC11553
This last image shows the oil seal fitted by Nigel
SDC11554
So I now have to check, how much the arm will foul the right frame tube, and "scallop" the swing arm to suit.
Cheers, Mark

This is another great build in the making. I found your triple build a few days ago and am 3/4 through reading it an amazing build. You have a great talent and so many good people helping you with both these builds. I have wanted to build a 4 cylinder for so many years but it was the crank that put me off but i will have to finish off my hybrid rd370lc first then may be a 4 cylinder. But keep up all the great work you are doing 😁 love the up dates on a Sunday night

Next challenge is to squeeze this into an LC or PV frame. Not sure if the usual frame spreading job will work as well here lol. Sounds magic tho John

has anyone ever thought of doing a v8 with 2 rd500 motors? seen that before, Its an outboard motor. ive even seen a car with one in. cooling on them in a nightmare as they are designed to have a constant flow of cold water (from whatever water they are been used on) I thnk the car had to run a 50ltr cooling system and was only any good for sprint runs. does sound awesome though

May be with a low boiling liquid and a condensor can solve that.

Cheers for the comments chaps ,
Back with the swing arm, I used an aircooled swing arm pivot bolt (as they are longer than the LC) to attach the swingarm. I could then see where the arm hits the frame.
SDC11568
The arm only touches on the right side, with 15mm of suspension travel left. So, I die grind the arm to miss the frame, with a 10mm safety margin on the suspension travel. Remember that my frame is spread by 20mm, but Nigel at NK racing will scallop the swing arm to miss the frame tubes if you have a standard width frame
SDC11570
Next, I move to the front end. R6 (5EB) RWU forks will be used, so I have to do a stem swap Dusty kindly supplied an LC lower yoke, that I ground off most of the lower weld
SDC11555
Next, two cuts are made in the yoke
SDC11556
Then the section is removed
SDC11557
And the stem is liberated from the yoke
SDC11558
You can grind the weld down more and use a hydraulic press if you want to keep the yoke.
See you all at Stafford next weekend
Cheers, Mark
