With the LC's frame AWOL I got back on the 'lil RD.
Had a mixed day today. The tank from China arrived, was £52 with postage free, and they assured me there will be no customs charge. WRONG! £28!! More than half the tank cost, then on inspection...oh dear.
After waiting ages for the (ahem) big bore kit I had to go through eBay to resolve this. The seller tells me it's waiting in a shop in Staines and I have to go get it. Uh huh. Free delivery means sod all then. So I have the kit it is 60cc and this is the condition it's in...
The LC's frame and swing arm are away being tweaked so back to the 'lil RD. The Mito front end is on with the clip ons and the Chinese levers and switch gear. Still amazes me that they just bolt on...no mods needed at all! The mounts on the frame where the tank goes on near the headstock have been, err, 'adapted' and it fits nicely now but that cross member where it bolts on needs lengthening. I was going to just move it but some extra bracing will be needed! As for the rear I was just going to get another swing arm like the LC one but funds are low, so my slightly knackered 350LC one is going to be trimmed a tad and it will bolt right on. Shock mountings are pretty much the same and I have an FZR400 wheel that looks like the Mito front one so I'm hoping I can use that.

The LC swinger has been trimmed a tad and slots right in, even the shock goes on just fine, albeit upside down! (It is the Mito one). But there was no way the FZR wheel would fit and funding won't stretch to a different swinger and wheel...so, why not use all my spare LC parts instead? So I did. The bike looks like a damn LC even with the tank and seat now! But I like it, longer and bigger. Just hope 60cc of raw throbbing power can move it a bit!

Got the rear end all on, and was surprised that 350LC foot rests just bolt straight on, so nice and easy to set up the brake and gear change. Front brakes are already done. The frame got treated to a visit from Mr Angry (I hate that thing!) and the seat latches are off as are the tank mounts. I need to fit some correct ones in there somehow. Was thinking what clocks to use and then it dawned on me I have a set of RD ones so I can use those. That rear part of the frame will be cut off and welded back on so it fits flush with the back of the seat.
That TZR250 exhaust will have a trial fit as I have nothing else to put on the bike at the mo, but there isn't much left I need to get this thing going. A head (eBay), a carb...a coil and some basic wiring and hey presto etc!
Hi mate That's looking really good :)The seat and tank combo really suit each other and gives a classic café racer "look". If you are gonna chop the rear frame anyway, have you seen the rear loops that have the LED lights fitted ?
Seen them fitted with your style of seat and that look really neat and unobtrusive - leaving the rear end "uncluttered" is really key with these builds. Just search "café racer" parts on ebay and there's lots of goodies that you could use or get ideas from.

Damn that is really trick. I have added it to my watch list along with a ton of stuff I can't afford but might be able to replicate. That thing I'd have to buy but yes that would look great. I want to leave the seat as is and was wondering about a rear light. Thanks Dusty!

Oh nice one mate. Just sold something on eBay for a lot less than I thought it would go for, but these things happen. Just bought a head and that coil off Norbo. I have everything else I need now to get the bike going.
No I don't! Need a battery. Can I use a 12v? The RD125LC is 12v so will this coil work? Oh oh...

6v matey. No worries I have got all the bits I need en route. Got the tiny piston in, made up some shock spacers, figured out were to bolt the steering damper and am now in a major battle with the barrel! In the workshop it was about 27c...outside ye gods it hit 45!
Yea, bloody hot today. Heathrow hit 35 degrees - hottest day so far this year and hotter tomorrow !! Needless to say I didn't spend any time in the shed !! What battles are you having with the barrel ? And is there a reason for not using an Lc shock absorber ?

Oh I will be using the 350LC one but that's with the frame at the welder's who is on holiday until monday! But eventually that will have to go back onto Elsie so I needed to see what spacers fit what if that makes any sense...will probably end up getting another 350LC shock and restoring that so both bikes have the same.
The barrel...I hate piston rings at the best of times . They either go straight on or I have hours of swearing ahead of me...yes they are lined up with the little spaces on the piston but at the moment it's Barrel 1 Alex 0. However this was after working on the truck outside and in that heat. I was a bit pooped.
Some parts were here when I got home, a couple of cables and a plug (genuine) and cap. Some neighbour has the cylinder head but all the courier said was 'left with a neighbour'. Spiffing as I have about 40...
Realised I also need a 6v ignition, seen one and will wait till funds dictate on that! Still need a carb an exhaust and summat else...forget what now!

Got some goodies in the post today. Found a better plate to mount the tank on, drilled it out and then bolted it to the frame. So that job is done. The seat will get the same treatment. Given up on the barrel. It was too damn hot and every time I tried I knackered myself! Tonight is cooler and so will have another crack at it in the morning. I need to bleed the brakes too, not a job I am looking forward too!
And then had a think about what other parts I need to get this ready for a day time MOT. A carb. 22mm and found one. A steering damper mount. Not needed at all but looks SO cool so that was ordered from China and very cheap. Used that company before so it's a good part. Reeds! Forgot about that. Only a few out there but one looked ok if a little manky so that's on it's way... (And in a gen Yamaha box...). Kickstart also from China, dirt cheap and from an unknown source so I'm expecting a lot of bump starts.
I am missing 2 items to finish this. OK, 3 as I need some tabs welding on the frame!
An exhaust and the exhaust screw on mounting thingy. Lots of those about, zorsts seem way to expensive so I will trawl eBay for anything that I can adapt to fit. One 250 exhaust should do it!
