So today, I'm sposed to start rebuilding my deck, but my backs aching, my knee is aching and it's pi**ing down , so I thought I would go and attack the frame with my grinder instead !! The frame has had an "interesting" life so far. It's obviously been modified, chopped and added to, but never finished. I still don't know whether an Lc or aircooled engine will end up in it so frame mounts wont get touched yet. I've been doing some research - the Lc option will utilise the top hole of the front mounts, with 2 spacers needed to take up the slack of the narrower Lc engine mounting on the crankcase. The rear mounts, as seen in the previous pics, are in the way of the engine sitting up in the frame - great for an aircooled motor but will need modding for an Lc. Yamark has a cut Pv frame and has offered me the rear engine mounts on the cross member - thanks mate - and if I go with an Lc engine I will need to cut out the aircooled cross tube and weld in the pv item. In the mean time there are some rough areas where frame parts have been removed, that need finishing. The bottom rails have had a cross member removed - it also mounted the side stand bracket - and also there is a threaded boss that standard aircooled exhausts mounted to.Whats left of the cross member, and the threaded bosses needed to go !!; 20180329_131903 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180329_131910 by David Miller, on Flickr The other brackets you can see are half of the footrest mounts - they mounted to these brackets underneath the engine on C and D model Rd's. They serve no purpose now so they are coming out to. 20180329_145125 by David Miller, on Flickr I also tidied up some welds whilst I had the grinder out. I'm not finished yet. Thinking of removing the bracket for the rear brake master cylinder. This bike will probably end up with rear sets and the master will be in the wrong place. Plus I'm thinking of making some strengthening plates to weld into the "V" of the frame at that point, so the bracket will get the chop !! Dusty

I'm liking this, different
Did mutts turbo motor not use an ac bottom end with lc cylinders?
May solve the mounts issue

No worries Dusty glad I could help. So are you going monoshock? Cut the bits off the other frame to use on the single coil one?

Hi Steve Not sure about Dave's turbo set up - could be a lot of work. Mark's offer of the frame tube with the Pv/Lc mounts will make life easier for sure. Hi Alex. Still mulling over which way to go but mono is a strong favourite. There is tidying up that can be done to it regardless of which engine would be fitted. I may look into getting a side stand mount welded onto the frame tube, same as an Lc, so I wouldn't have to chop the spar out of the twin shock frame. Lots of ideas bouncing around at the mo I remember a pic from the aircooled forum from years ago of a build that I would like to copy to some extent. Managed to track the pic down tonight; fa53e52c1a3e90244874763ff82fc507 by David Miller, on Flickr Looks like Belgarda front end and rear wheel. It shows, imo, that modern running gear can work with the older tank/seat combo, giving me more options. Aircooled motor does look good Dusty

If it was a man, you wouldn't pick a fight! edit, I have to say, of this style, its the most appealing ive seen. edit 2 .....next project

Did a bit more tidying of the frame this week. As mentioned before, the bracket for the rear master cylinder will be redundant as new footrests are unlikely to line up with it anyway, so I chopped it off; 20180404_152139 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180404_161425 by David Miller, on Flickr I also tidied up the area where the top shock mount had been cut off previously; 20180404_161451 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180404_161431 by David Miller, on Flickr Bit more work required at the back ! I'm also gonna cut out the old coil mount; 20180404_161417 by David Miller, on Flickr I will use newer coils regardless of engine fitted so a flat plate will be welded in. I'm also experimenting with designs of some strengthening plates, to give a bit more strength, and, if I'm honest, look a bit more race bike like !! 20180404_161514 by David Miller, on Flickr I've also bought a set of forks to try. Not sure how they will pan out - I will get a pic when they turn up Dusty

Hi Dusty, I did use an A/C 400 bottom end with LC barrels, I had 2 sets of barrels made and also have some very trick heads to fit the engine now as well, I also have a load of updates to do to the engine including porting, if you are interested give me a shout and I'll be happy to share/discuss how I did it, the engine is a real torque monster (normally aspirated) and would certainly make your bike a very individual build etc

Hi Dave That sounds awesome mate I'm still undecided as to which engine to use. Aircooled would "look" best I think as the physically bigger barrels would fill the space beneath the tank better. But an Lc engine is a bit more refined and gives better performance in standard trim. I just wonder if an Lc would look a bit small beneath that tank ! Having had a look on Google images, I think the tank is very much like a TD3 Yam, and they had aircooled barrels and heads. Been watching some 400's on ebay - they make really strong money now Dusty

The 4LO block always remind me of a TZ. Would it be possible to lower the tank slightly to take up that visual space?

I don't think it would look too small, especially when the radiator goes on, but I know what you mean. Personally I'd stick a 400 engine in or even a 350 A/C, lots of scope for tuning there!

The tank sits quite flat, on the frame rails, so I cant really change that. I am going to offer the tank up to an Lc tomorrow to see if it fits, and if it does, how it looks with an Lc engine below it. I think the channel for the frame tube may be too narrow for the Lc's twin spars though - the aircooled Rd has a single tube, so narrower. I know Wangwang has a Tz style tank on his project bike but I believe it's a fibre glass item, and may have different dimensions to fit the Lc frame. Looks good though Dusty

The forks turned up today. Took a bit of a gamble with these. I had a vague recollection that Rgv125 forks were very like Rgv250. The 125 has a single disc, but the fork bottom matches the 250, except the caliper mounting holes are blanked in. I couldn't find much info from people who may have chosen these as a cheaper option than 250 forks, so I took a chance and hit the buy it now button. Couriered to my door for £60 all in; 20180412_160744 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180412_160620 by David Miller, on Flickr I'm away for a few days tomorrow so wont have time for a proper measure up till next week. Length looks good. Diameter at the top yoke is 2mm less than 250 I believe. Mouse has a spare front wheel so I will offer it all up and see if I can use an Rgv250 wheel and brakes - fingers crossed !! Dusty
