Swingarm bolt came so tightened up the engine cases, fitted swinger and dropped wheel in, clearly the 5mm off the sprocket carrier wasn’t enough for the 160 tyre so back it went for another 5mm off. Fitted again and just thrown some old X7 shocks on to see the look. Straight edge shows about a 5mm offset sprocket should be ok. So I need to get the taper bearings sorted for front end and bearings for arm and get the frame and arm welded up for some piggy back shocks.

Right then, ordered a sprocket, thanks to midlife Steve for the heads up, going standard on front and rear and taking 13mm off sprocket carrier. Logbook came back today from DVLA, so can now dig right in. Spoken to Mutts about a 421 build so need to get cracked on with fab work.

The ones fitted are 300mm 320mm moves the mounts back on the swinger for a better angle, don’t think 350mm will work without it street fightering the back end up?

I like the idea of this one. Early days yet,but looking good. Only a personal opinion, but I think the shocks would look better laid down a bit(more of an angle)they look a little too up right. I like the laid down shock look on the later twin shock moto crossers Baz

Spacer tube and top hat sleeves turned up on lathe to make LC swinger bolt fit arm, bearings fitted and shocks trialled. Shocker eye knackered and ring so gone to Ken to see if he can help repair them

bri made these to strengthen the top shock mounts. Shocks stripped, springs at pro strip to remove powder then off for a new yellow coat. Ken is trying to remove the air cylinders and shock tubes so that I can have them anodised and yellow passivated.

So whilst the bike is stripped for fab work I turned my attention to the rear caliper. Having looked to strip it, it was then I noticed 1 bolt had sheared and the other had been drilled (badly and off centre). Pressed out all the seals and rubbers, blew 1 piston out and the other was in there tight, got that out with the grease gun method. Once everything was stripped off that left the 2 problem areas. Heat, heat and more heat to start with, then in vice and big bar on nut (snap). OK, now in 2 parts. Knocked the bolt heads through that’s 1 side ready for blast and coat. Took the grinder to the snapped bolts and gave myself a flat surface, auto centre punch then 7mm hole straight through middle of both old bolts. Tapped to 8mm, new bolts in for test fit (winner) both side now ready for full refurb. made a 5mm spacer on the lathe so I can use the gsxr400 yokes.

Great work Russ, I do like a bit of bonkers fabrication that pushes the boundaries. I can relate to the murdered bit of stud timber with all the hammer indents - I've been there loads of times.
Following with interest mate

Made some tools to strip the ohlins All a tight fit. Thats that out, will whip a 1000 or 2 off in lathe then yellow passivate. Need to make same to remove the air canister then that off for anodising.

Took off as much as I dare, worst part is covered by the black cover so once back together should be ok. Time to get the canister off. Thats 1 fully stripped, other is at imageworks having the stickers replicated, so waiting for a call off Graham to get the other back then round 2 of stripping.

Made a top mount out of alloy and some spacers to test fit and make a template for the steel ones I’ll make when the arm comes back from Ken’s.

Just noticed your build, really enjoyed reading through it, and have to admit, I do like the twin shock idea. I have also used the Gsxr 400 swingarm in the LC frame, if you check out my build thread "and so it starts" you may get some info on chain alignment etc but to be fair it looks like your more or less sorted - the 160 rear is real tight I was advised to go with the 150, youve already shown you dont mind putting the work in to go your own direction and will be watching with interest to hopefully see the 160 in there. Looks like youve built up some momentum with the build which is always good, keep up the great work and good luck
