From reading Graham Bell's book these won't add anything to peak power, if your bike is already jetted for peak power. The advantage is that they should remove the part throttle 'lean stumble' which some people compensate for by running a bit more rich. Consequently, if you've done that then they offer the opportunity to lean off a bit and gain more power.
As I understand it they should aid ride-ability through giving a smoother transition onto larger throttle openings. For road riding that's probably an advantage worth paying for.

I run a set of these my one of my 500s with 34mm carbs. I ran the bike for a few thousand miles before fitting them. Swapped out the pilots and noticed a little better midrange. That’s it. Bike picked up better say when diddling along in traffic or just dinking along on a twistie. Don’t know if they are worth it though.

Possibly impolitic :-) But? if you have or have a mate with a 3d printer? Cobble up a pair for yourself. It's a simple item to draw and print

i wonder if any of the specialists on the forum might understand this review and help people decide if they wanna try the UFO inserts ? mutts have you any take on these results ? 3cyl.com/mraxl/manuals/ufo/UFOreview.pdfI've not tested any, but the theory is correct (in my opinion) that straightening the air flow will give increases in mid range, it will do nothing (I suspect) for peak power as at that point on WOT the slide is completely out of the air flow so won't be causing any distrubance as such to the air flow. The shape/design of them should help accelerate the air past the pilot and main jet, this will help atomistaion of the fuel and the better you do that, the more fuel you will burn and not throw down the exhaust, so for a given amount of fuel you should get more efficient burning. As I say, this is all theory on my part, but that is what I would say is how they work, but I've no data/real testing to back any of that up Hope it helps anyway

I have done a few sets of theys for people in both standard and bigger carbs and every one has got back to me and said they were ace but a bugger to get right a far bit of messing about with pilot jets going smaller not bigger

yes logic would suggest that smaller jets would be required on the pilot side as the draw would be greater on the fuel, so more being pulled, making it run rich in the mid range etc

I run these on both my 500s, I have 34mm carbs on them, They did make a big difference in low down power, Gave it more pull in the lower revs, They were pretty gutless under 4k, The guy who supplied the carbs and cable kits suggested them and I tried them on one bike, Massive improvement, I can pull from idle in top gear, I would suggest running them on a bike with carbs that will take them, I dropped from a 35 pilot to a 15 pilot and it runs perfect...

I made a enquiry about these for my 34mm mikuni's with motocarb up in Liverpool, he put me off as he said they work best on a race bike, he also needed the carbs to do some machining on the slides and and carb body!! So in the end stuck with me pwk28s which already do what the UFO inserts try and do regarding spray pattern etc...

I didn’t have to machine anything to make the work on my mikuni 34s. I did have to sand a little off the actual ufo insert as it was holding the slide open a bit and making the bike idle higher. Easy fix.

Hi tackyits been that long since i stripped my carbs im not sure what i have in mine and can't find my notebook at the mo ( some has been tidying up !) but im fairly sure im on 22.5's so i think ill try 17.5's first then down to 15's . what did you notice to tell you too rich? black plugs or running lumpy and hesitant ? I've also raised my needles as in putting the clip into the fourth groove down from the top to get the best feel , i'll try the needle where it is at first i think would you agree after you've done a fair bit of fiddling with yours ? how much difference did you notice after you got yours dialled in ? and would you recommend guys using them ? cheers Pete
