I bought a longer bush from NORBO as I understand it is a weak point but not sure what the mod is and is it forgetting fitting the longer bush and going for this as I am not that far from York

The mod requires the hole that the shaft passes through on the sprocket side to be reemed out so the steel bush can be pressed in. Lc cases don't have the bush as standard - Ypvs cases do, although the one Norbo sells is slightly longer and protrudes on the inside of the case, adding support to the gear shaft. It's done because 30+ years of a steel gear shaft moving in a bare alloy hole wears the alloy and leads to oil leaks that the seal struggles to contain. Lc's and Pv's aren't particularly leaky engines, but when they do leak, gear shaft and neutral switch are usually the culprits. For the gear shaft bush, you ideally want bare cases, so a good thing to do at the start of a bottom end rebuild Dave will sort you out !! Dusty

Quick question, will the ypvs bush push out and push in with the new extended one without machining? Thanks Mark

So, God my heads a shed learning all the bits and pieces. Mine is a YPVS and so has the bush which I have bought the extended one. Do I still need the mod? as mine is stripped for a rebuild and I am not far away from York (Harrogate for next two weeks), if it will be beneficial I will have it done. Dave, do you do any weld/repair work? It had a broken clutch guide bolt which, when cleaned has a slight crack in the side of the flange.

No mod needed, the old one will drive out then gently tap the new one in Steve
