had a look at my centre stand today and its not sitting right, its going over centre and not lifting the back wheel off the ground. Whats the easiest or best way to sort it?
My solution was to weld a couple of steel discs about the size of a 2p coin on top of the stand legs, grind smooth and paint. This way you don't have to mess about with the frame and stand still looks standardish. Fairly normal problem this.
I had the same problem with mine so I made up same 6mm thick plates to sit on top of the stand and mig welded them on then sprayed it up . No problem with mine now and you can’t tell it has been done .
When these bikes were new, how high should the rear wheel actually be lifted from the floor? Anyone know of any measurements/reference points for that??
I had the same issue...looking under the frame I couldn't tell if the frame was dented but on the center stand both the bikes wheels were on the ground...
so had my dad weld a few washers to the top of the stand...the amount was a lucky guess.
as you can see the frame is solid- just must have been a dent...

Nice job on the stand mate...On the pic above, the wee angle piece welded to the side of the cross rail and frame tube(rh side of pic), is that how Yam made them? I have the same (I think!) on my frame and thought it was a repair so id be pleased if its how they where made..
My frame is the same, maybe because side stand on that side? The other cross rail at the front for engine, whilst it has 2 webs, one per side, the one on side stand side is also more substantial.
I'm always amazed how everyone sees things in my pics that I never do...since I happened to have another LC lying about, a 1982, (my earlier post is a 1981) I'm able to confirm it has the same webby bit...but only one on the side stand side.
apologies for the muck, we're not done there yet.
I remember when I took the stand over to my dads house I really looked at what a boat anchor it really is and how agriculturally it's put together....huge bits of steel roughly welded together...some poor buggers must've sat there welding them up, day in, day out.
