Morning all. I need to replace the needle roller bearings in an alloy Suspension Link Arm. Is it ok & should i freeze the bearings before pressing them into the alloy link arm or will it knacker them? Cheers. Mick.

Good question
I have done it putting wheel bearings in but when you get the bearing out of the freezer, they get loads of condensation on them , but look at what bearings have to put up with in climates and conditions

Yes freeze the bearing and warm the link arm.

Well i now have the new bearings. I'm only changing them as a matter of course as having Ohlins shock rebuilt. Pressed the old one ones out quite easily without heat, they really have not done many miles since i last changed them. My question is now that the bearings are covered in like a waxy, almost plastic coating inside, so no room to pack any more grease in I dug some out just to see what its like without the stuff So, what is yellow stuff? pre packed waxy grease? Should i add more grease not that there is anywhere for it to go? Any should i not freeze in case it messes the yellow stuff up? As said bearings press in quite easily Advice appreciated

hi mellow ,that looks like the bearing comes pre-packed to me, unless you prefer a different grease I would just fit as they are.

Dont bother freezing the bearing just heat the arm/ link they are going in a bit. As said freezing causes condensation etc and its not really needed.
