Hello all, I'm currently reccomisioning/restoring an '89 350ypvs f2 and I've hit exhaust de-coke stage, anybody got any hints/tricks on how to remove the silencer baffles? I've removed the m6 bolt at the base of the silencer and can't for love nor money get the buggers out! The bikes only done 17,000 miles from new so pretty sure they've never been out (I know the previous owner and while the bikes in remarkably good condition he wasn't inclined for technical maintenance )

Hi, I think they are not removable.
That M6 bolt is for draining excess oil,in the silencer as far as I’m aware.
You may not like the idea because of the shiny end can, but the best method IMO of de-coking expansions is to put them in an incinerator. Coke turns to shiney black chips easily knocked out. I was told this by my local plating guy who refused to replate my exhausts unless I did this first.
I think the F2 has a mechanical silencer so it may be OK to use this method? but I’d have someone else confirm success on F2 pipes using this method first if I was you.

As above F2 has non removable baffles... back in my early years I used caustic soda.. then thoroughly flushed through.. I recently bought a spare set of exhausts to remove / modify std silencer an use bolt on silencers..

Well that explains why i couldnt budge them then! I was under the impression they were removable! I've caustic soda'd them but didnt get an enourmous amount out of them but i can still see large amounts of build up in the spannies and down the end cans, i'll try the heat method see if that gets it out! Thanks!
