Yes, I spotted the same paint on a new R1 at NEC show as well,(same bike?) the original model next to it still looked better IMHO

nice wide comfy rear seat / pillion on this new model. I wonder what chick's ass could suite this size.
If I had a space .. the first thing would be 1998/99 red-white R1. Just for collecting dust.

I know the white and red ones are the most desirable but I really like the blue ones better personally.

I've never ridden an early R1 - I would love to. I've got a 2006 5vy with 1,700 miles on the clock, always brings a smile to my face when I look at it.

When I got mine . I thought holy cow this thing sure does go. Later on I replaced the old air filter and new plugs. After that on my first ride it nearly spat me off and wanted to land on top of me and I was leaning right over it. Front wheels lifts up if I grab to much throttle. Its like a two stroke on steroids and quite frankly scares the crap out of me with my riding ability. But its mine. So I have to live with it. ha

Is it me stuck in a time warp or do all the old bikes look so much better than the new ones. Had a walk around a local bike dealership recently and even if I had loads of money to spend I would walk straight back out again. So many adventure bikes, and god are they ugly, they all look like part bin specials😀

I loved my R1 (I had three) and the fireblade before that. My 50th anniversary R1 finally won and the 100+mph wheelies started to worry me. That and 2 speeding stops (let off) in a week I decided to got rid before I either lost my licence or killed myself. Realising that bike was more than I could handle was a realisation my reactions weren't fast enough anymore (I was 52 and have ridden big bikes since the original FZR Genesis in 1988 ish). Having ridden the latest R1 (at Oulton Park) reinforced that belief and twenty mins on a 200bhp was enlightening but too much for me, even on a track. Fantastic bikes but like any big engine bike (or car) totally wasted on UK roads with an old f@rt at the controls.
And here's MY thing, riding an R1 at 70mph the bike has barely got going and you have to be very aware of all your surroundings. It's a monster and will bite you if you let it. Riding an LC at 70mph is fkin good fun, and riding bikes is all about having fun.

A week or so ago I put my 98 R1 on ebay to sell. The interest was almost overwhelming. Made reserve in under an hour and honestly exceeded my expectations. After 4 days with 3 to go I withdrew it from sale. Just couldnt part with it. Apologised to bidders cause it was poor form on my part. Took it out for a short ride a day or so later. WOW bloody WEE. What a beast.
