Im stumped so invoking the forum equivalent of the 'phone a friend' I have a single red wire running up from the stator that seems not to have anywhere to connect to. This has me stumped. The stator came from Canada, the Loom and CDI and form Aus... so, do I have a mismatch or has someone snipped this one off and I cant see where it should be? What confuses me is that there is not a single red on the wiring diagram, its within the black plug to the CDI only.

From the cdi, there should be 3 wires red/black/brown that connect with the black plug to the stator, then a single red and white wire again connecting to the stator, there should also be the 3 wires black/black white/ orange that eventually connect to the coil.

Is this on a 4L0 LC?

Its a 5E1 loom on a 5E1 frame with 4L0 stator and CDI... but yes '4L0 LC', not any other ypvs or AC etc.

CDi is the same, your stator looks the same apart from the extra red wire.

Hi Jon
Had the stator out of my bike earlier this year to get it checked out, don't remember seeing this red wire so I just had a look under the seat, I don't have it, 1982 5E0 model
Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve, yeah this is a Canadian only thing I reckon, no other market has this extra wire, making the Canuck Stator a bit of a rare thing... those bikes also have the two piece taillight/plate section no one else has.

Just a thought. We're there not some markets that had headlight on all the time
Could it not be an a.c. feed for that

Good thoughts. MK on the RDRZ forum suggest side stand switch, and I know the Candian models had those and I do not...

I'd say it is. I had a German LC that had the exact same wire and me scratching my head for a while...was the side stand wire...

It's taken me forever to find the time to get at this- and it may be a cold case by now- but for the sake of closing the subject: This is a pic of the wiring on my 1982 Canadian (4Y3-101362) 350. Don't know if you can see this from the pic but there is a Single Red Wire coming from the group of stator wires that connects to...a BROWN wire which disappears into the fuse box. Open up the fuse box and there are THREE brown wires labelled TAIL, SIGNAL and HEAD-I think that the red connects to the brown that is is connected to the HEAD. I was previously certain the red it went to the side stand but you can see that the side stand wiring block wires (with SS on it) consist of a blue & yellow and a black. My only disclaimer is that I've yet to connect a good battery to the bike so who knows if that red is supposed to go to the brown but everything else on the bike is total spec so I think the wiring is as it left the factory. Out of curiosity I followed the blue & yellow and a black side stand and the appear to lead up to the ignition switch or the ignition block which would make sense. Also check out the right hand instrument gear- no headlight control- meaning lights are on all the time.

Cool, mystery solved/proved then, its for always on lights, ie run directly from the stator not the battery with now switch, Thanks m8!
