Cheers! As problems go these are minor ones. I think I can use the speedo drive with some subtle tweaks and a washer...we'll see!

Hi mate Are you thinking the top yoke may have a different offset to the bottom yoke ? Surely they must be the same offset otherwise the forks wouldn't pass through the bottom yokes and fit the top. You are going to have to check everything is straight and designed to work together. You can lay the yokes over each other to check they line up. You can put the forks next to each other and rotate them to see if the gap between them changes. And you are going to need the correct speedo drive, or at least know the exact dimensions of one and then see if you can get yours modded to match. It helps to centralise the wheel in the forks. If you can get part numbers for the components you have it will be much easier to cross reference everything, otherwise it can be a vicious circle trying to mod parts to fit. I can pop over at some point if you need a hand. Dusty

Thanks Dusty your help as always is most appreciated. Started to take the front end off and decided first to check the spindle with a spirit level, as visually it looks perfect. Well, it isn't! So that has to be part of or all of the problem. Just been on eBay and ordered another so fingers crossed etc. As for the speedo drive...I did some measuring. The right fork leg has no spacer as such what you see there is the actual fork design, a built in spacer so to speak. I measured that and the drive and as expected they are identical in width, however that flange part needs to come out somehow. Then it will slot straight in. I'll take it to Clive and see what he says!

So the new spindle arrived today and it's not bent...but I am getting the same results. Then it dawned on me. I'm using Mito forks but RS125 yokes. Could they be ever so slightly narrower than the Mito counterparts? To test the theory a bit I put on the mudguard. It 'squishes' in a bit so that kinda confirms my idea. Looks like I need Mito yokes then... On a positive note I have rebuilt the brakes. The rear has new Kyoto pads in and is on the bike, awaiting some new front pads now. Alex

I asked on here yesterday and Alan measured up his Mito yokes...195mm eye to eye. My RS ones are 185mm. No wonder the wheel didn't fit! Found a set of Mito yokes on eBay and bought them. So I took off the front end...again lol I'll re paint the forks while they are off too... Alex

Lots of bits turned up today. The correct yokes with annoyingly incorrect bearings (I'll send them back), and some new brake pads... There was an issue with the top yoke. This part had to be removed (fairing mount so not needed) as it was hitting the top of the frame. So with that cut off the yokes went on perfectly, albeit with only one used bearing for now... Now wondering if I should use Mito handlebars as they mount directly on the side of the top yoke. Having owned a Mito I know that the riding position is fairly comfy compared to clip ons. Will have a butchers on eBay later. And both forks are done and ready to go on! Alex

Like Veg I also enjoy the problem solving of a build, its the attraction for me I think of the process. Coming along well Alex, keep at it mate.

They're probably standard 7/8 size bars. Many of the race suppliers will have them to fit. I have several pairs knocking around if you get stuck..

Thanks lads and I was going to send you a PM Reg...however... I had a look for genuine Mito bars and wow they are expensive so I wondered if I took off the mounting brackets on my clip ons would that work? Yes. Then remembered the proper bars have a groove cut in them for perfect alignment...I can tackle that job later. With that sorted out will the forks and wheel go on? Yes again! I need to do some minor tweaks with spacers as I am missing one and I can't find it anywhere but she's a rolling chassis again! Alex

Okay. It's been a long time since I posted anything on this...in fact it's been a long time since I did anything to any of my projects. However, I now have an assembled engine and it needs to go in! It's only a 250 lump but that will suffice for now, perhaps convert to a 350 later on.
So the plan is to make a bit of space. I have 4 bikes in the workshop and out of all of them the one least likely to get any spanner time is the RD drag bike. So that will be up for sale. Anyone here want her let me know, I'd rather sell it for a fair price on the forum rather than go down the eBay route.
Meantime the engine will get plonked in and I'll have a test run to make sure all is well. Then the frame can go off to get the shock mounts welded in...then it's just bolt it all together and see how she rides. Pretty sure I have everything I need now to finish the old girl.
Work shall commence this week...photos to come!

So, today it stopped raining enough for me to get some bikes outside and move things around so I can wheel the LC out... And after 18 months in hibernation here she is! The old lass doesn't look too shabby, just a film of dust everywhere. Next job is to whip out the engine and get the new one in. And that will be done this week. Honest. Alex

Finally I have enough space to get to work! After a bit of a knuckle skinning exercise the old engine came out... New engine waiting to go in... Then I hit a snag. Really want to get the centre hose in before I mount the engine but no matter what way round I put it, it doesn't fit! Anyone got any ideas? Alex

That will need trimming to the correct length Alex. I've had to do it with LMC hoses in the past Dusty

Thanks Dusty. The other 2 hoses seem correct but I did wonder if the centre one needed a trim.

Kin ell finally pulled your finger out then π. Alex have you any idea how uncomfortable those bars are going to be? I swapped my ace bars back to renthalls as I was crippled. π

Aha! These are surprisingly comfy, well, they are for me. It's now an entire Mito front end so the bars are fairly flat...ish. So it'll be kinda like riding a Mito and that's the only bike I have that works and I don't mind the position at all. Hell mate some of my bikes had clip ons and clock protecters, coupled with rear sets, not an issue for me!

Right. Another sit rep. As some of you know my mum passed away in January and I inherited her house. I have moved in but what with her antique furniture everywhere and my more modern stuff it's a bit chaotic in here! I really want to get the LC in the lounge for some more relaxed spannering so the idea was to sell the old stuff, get a little dosh and a ton more space. Bit of a snag there as probate still hasn't gone through and the antiques class as part of this so they have to stay. So...for the last two days I have been carrying stuff downstairs and into the workshop. Any idea how much marble weighs? It's a LOT! But, I am almost ready to bring the bike in. Before that happens I need to address the rear shock/swingarm problem. A good mate on here has offered to help with some CAD so we'll get that done then the frame and swinger can go off to get welded up. After that it will be blasted then sprayed by myself. Not going for powder coat this time. Then the frame can come in, and I can start bolting bits back on. Really hoping to start this next week, and if I don't I really have no excuses this time!
