Got her back from Mutts weekend before last. Dave managed to clean the cylinder up with acid and flush the bottom end out, replacing the damaged piston with a new one including small end bearing..the power valves were replaced also as they were badly worn. The big shock was my jetting was pants! Dave went from 280 mains to 420 and still he says it could do with more fuel, she runs rich from about 4K to 5k then takes off like a scolded cat and is super responsive, the richness low down doesn’t cause any riding issues as there’s still plenty of torque there it’s just very noisy believe it or not, sounds lovely on idle but I’ve now resorted to ear plugs while riding as going through built up areas I get a lot of reverb bouncing off the buildings and winding me up 😆 hahaDave can sort it with bigger carbs but, I’m going to work with it for now as Malton is a bloody long way in the van for only a small issue.. Dave noted that the throttle cable was not good, I inspected it and found it frayed where it goes around the throttle tube, so rep, aced it with one of Norbo,s jap made ones, removing the oil pump part of the cable first before fitting..

Glad its going well, yes the mid range fuelling issue comes from the large mains, couldn't find a happy medium as I said at the time and preferred it to have more fuel up top and live with the slight flutter between 4k and 5k, as I said, it really needs different or slightly larger carbs to get it fuelling correctly as we have reached the limits of those carbs on your bike, odd how some bikes do that and yet others run fine with much smaller jetting on the same carbs, still, you know where I am now if you want that stutter sorting, if any decent carbs cross my path I'll keep you in mind

Thanks Dave, you’ve done a brill job with her, and I can now ride her feeling she is much more trust worthy than before, as well as it being much more aggressive higher up the rev range. In fact she now rides much more like I remember my Lc when I was a kid which is great as I used to complain to myself the ypvs didn’t behave like the Lc .. Cheers Mark

Dave mentioned the unexplanable differences between same type of carbs. I found out lately that 0,5mm extra on floath height compensates sometimes a jetsize.
