Do love the tuber Buells, but you need to know them well, dealer's of old couldn't give a f**k, took mine down to Dockgate20 in Southampton for a noisy gearbox, had it a week and when told it was ready, all they had done was change the oil. There's a top Indy in Manchester who had already diagnosed it as a bearing issue, challenged the dealer top tech (Tubbs) that was the issue, became a bit of a to do on the forum, Maz (Indy) stated he could prove it, so DG20 had it back, and lo and behold, half the gearbox needed replacing, bearings, shafts ..... really pissed me off as it was still under warranty, and they couldn't be arsed. I'd like an older one, pricing is tricky as they really are a niche bike, you either get them (really get them) or you have no interest what's so ever. No good if your teeth arnt perfect, those fillings ain't gonna last long (and don't leave them ticking over on the side stand either, they walk)

Check out what the parts go for on eBay I guess then decide. Shame to break it. Alex I think you would deserve being tarred and feathered. Quick tip, if you stop calling it a Harley (which it isn't) I'd be amazed if you wouldn't get at least £4k for it but the mods you have made will put everyone off it. I'd get north of £7k for mine.

It’s a Harley engined chassis, whilst the motor may have unique parts they are still first and foremost a Harley motor built by Harley Davidson in Wisconsin and then sold through Harley dealers, ok I get it, we call bimotas bimotas but by their suffix they are Suzuki eg S (Suzuki) B (bimota) SB4 They are a relatively sought after up grade for sportsters and xr reps. They are to my limited knowledge a more sought after motor than the later xb series due to their reputation for grenading at circa 20’000 miles. I was ultimately put off buying one due to the reputation both the xb and the earlier x1. I looked at numerous types and was advised by a well known buell specialist to look elsewhere. Martin good luck with whatever you chose to do.

Yes Veg your right, a cassette gearbox, Thunderstorm heads, equal length header exhaust, performance cams, performance ecu, it doesn't share very much with a sportster, they aren't grenades at all if they are set up and serviced correctly just that not a lot are. The chassis is totally buell and a thing to behold, the handling is supurb and there isn't much over the cat and fiddle that I can't embarrass on a nice summer day but a fast bike it is not and I'd say anyone buying one should be sure they know the risks and that they are the bike for them. Its generally agreed that the post 2001 X1 is the best and most sorted tuber Buell of them all and the one to own and with good advise it should be easy enough to buy a sorted one for around £5K. Seriously though, why should they be worth a fortune, I have a mate with a 1999 R6 that is as good as it was when it left the factory and its worth less than £2K, Buells are a bit rarer but so what.

It was ‘Maz’ Who warned me off them he advised me against a later model and told me the costs associated with an earlier one coupled with purchase price just put me off, I still love them but wouldn’t pay big money for one

Maz is my best mate Veg, the latter models he is on about would be any XB because he hates them, just as a warning though, not paying big money means you'll pay big money. A 10K service on an XB incidentally costs about a grand. I wouldn't want to tell you what my M1 cost to build but honestly, its been faultless for 10 years, they have a bad rep but if you don't treat them like shit they are very reliable.
