Original are M8 flange nuts with a 1.25 pitch thread and 12mm spanner size. Most of what you can buy on ebay are a 13mm spanner but the same in all other respects. Don't fit serrated flange nuts or use washers, and no need to use Nyloc nuts either.

Are you sure, don't remember having flange nuts fitted (apart from barrels) just 8mm (12mm af) nuts/washers

Looking at the parts lists the 1983/84 LC2 and F1/N1 used washers under the nuts for the crankcase then went to flanged nuts with built in washers on the later F2/N2 models.

..early 31k engines have nuts an washers as standard , 86 on shouldered nut , on a lighter note nearly every replacement engine bolt kit ive seen or bought comes with serrated nuts with washers ...

Hi I've always used stainless Nylocs and plain washers, regardless of engine model. Never had any problems Dusty

Hi, On my 4L0,I used s/s plain washers, s/s plain nuts and finished it off with a s/s dome nuts. Probably a bit overkill, but Elsie is worth it !.... and it keeps the shite out the end of the thread on the studs, so that when it is stripped down the next time, it hopefully wont screw the studs out, and they will stay in the top half of the crank case. steven.

Wow ! Just like the fittings on a Public Urinal. Seemingly odd to think that that's viewed as an improvement though.

I use stainless m8 rod connectors cut to length on anything where the thread is exposed, ypvs barrel base nuts & exhaust studs look far better & they keep the crap out

Sorry for jumping on your thread Tigwelder, Tell, I have the same feelings regarding exposed threads. I also have stainless steel (flange nut/dome nut) "shite hoose" fixings on my exhaust studs, which are M8 x 45mm grub screws, so I can screw them in and out easily with an allen key. The extra weight isnt realy a problem, as I always make sure I go for a three coiler prior to going out on my LC !
