Started my bike up for the first time last night and the joint between the down pipe and silencer was leaking. When I pushed the two together all I had was a nylon insert inside( worn ) which I pushed upto the flange on the down pipe and the outer rubber joint cover with a spring either side.
When I look on ebay etc I can see the same rubber outer seal, but it as a paper gasket inside.
have I got the wrong seal and do you use silicone as an extra sealing precaution when putting back
Which is right.

I use the Yambits aluminium joint seals on my 2R9 exhausts and find them better than the alternatives. They do wear out though, due to the movement between the donwpipe and muffler, so will last around 5,000 kms from my experience.
