When fuel tap is switched to the ON position the fuel only comes out for the left hand carb, but when switched to reserve it comes out of both. Got me confused.. any ideas what might be the problem before i strip it down to investigate? Cheers and look forwards to any advice.

Strange logic that. Likely to be dirt in the filter I reckon. Have you tried it with bike level, eg on centre stand and still get same result?

Same problem on center and side stand.. should the filter have a top hat type of cover on the filter as mine doesn't seem to have one, but don't think that will be causing the problem !!!

Can't quite remember but they can be assembled wrong as in the metal lever can sit in the plastic cone 180 degrees out ! Has it been apart ?

Good point by headcoats. Internal filter does have a hood/cover, but fuel enters from sides. Maybe if no cover muck comes in from top. Think you need to remove it and have a look. Not a big job.

Hi Headcoats it does seem as if something is 180degrees out. What are they like for stripping down...Cheers for the advice.

Tread carefully. These fuel taps are of some Zinc Alloy (pretty well Chocolate IMO) And almost 40 years .. does take it's toll. Might keep buying a fresh New one in the back of your mind as an alternate solution.

I know exactly what you mean Bare. I decided to buy an apparently good working tap of Ebay as a back up before stripping.. but i did blast the airline up both outlets today while tank was of the bike and put a bit of pipe on and blew down each outlet and it seemed ok.. so might just of been a blockage hopefully..fingers crossed. Thanks.

Mine was bought brand new (genuine part) when I did the rebuild and that was about 6 years a go it was first put on the road and now the tap is so hard to move it's a feckin bad design or I suspect the ethanol has done some damage
I have always ran premix too , so that tap would have had a bit of lube
Need someone to come up with a solution so all I need to turn the tap would be my little pinky

As a possible? There are quite nice Ball type valves fitted to some Gardening equipment. Built for trouble free usages even when in the hands of uncaring employees. Still have to evolve an attachment to the tank method that wouldn't look like a preschooler made it. Hey! if all this Bike stuff was Easy.. anybody could do it :-)

I noticed a similar problem today, whilst trying to drain the tank of it's fuel, I had the tank off the bike on a workmate, two tubes going down into a jerry can, turned the tap to reserve and fuel started to come down both pipes but stopped in one. I then tried the on position, same thing happened. I then turned the tap off, blocked both ends of the hoses with my thumb and turned the tap back on, fuel did flow down both hoses but I don't think that it stayed like that, sooner or later one stops flowing. The hoses weren't the same length, routed differently obviously,...is it just a case of the fuel taking the easiest flow route??

Fitted a replacement tap and all was Ok, I completely stripped the offending one and left in ultrasonic cleaner for ages . Rebuilt with new seal and red rubber grease to enable easy tap operating. Refitted and worked fine . Got a spare on the shelf now just in case.

I had tap issues, sorted finally by making one good tap out of two very tight taps, I did look at the Pingel range of taps, but my credit card curled up and refused to come out of the corner. They look great, but Fffffing expensive. anyone fitted one?
