Hi, Great forum - I have been looking at some of the other projects with a little envy! I live in France and I have just purchased an RD350LC 4L0 after a few months searching. She isn't in bad nick for 36 years old but needs some big love!! I would like to restore her to original condition but with some extra shiney bits, depending on budget. I have just started to strip the motor and found that the oil pump worm drive and gear inside the pump are pretty much shredded, not sure why yet? This would account for the seizure that occurred to the previous owner! It will be a longer term project but I will put photos on as things advance. Look forward to talking soon..... Just after I parted with my dosh. Discovery of chewed oil pump gear I've had a look at the pistons and one is badly scored, shame as the previous owner had just rebored! [/a]

Welcome in, looks like a good starting point
Chewed pump and worm gear would suggest they are not matched. The 250 and 350 had different pumps and matched worm drive but can be bodged together.
The scoring after reborn suggests all is not well in the pump area too
User arrow on here refurbishes oil pumps for a very reasonable fee. I've had 3 done now

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum. The mixing up of 250 and 350 oil pumps and drives is not uncommon on this model, but it can be sorted.

Perhaps if I sent you some initial pics of the offending pump etc. and see if it's something you could fix/help with ? Cheers Rich

If arrow can't fix it no-one can.
2 pumps done by him so far, and 2 to get done at some point.

I just wasn't sure that if the pump was a 250 whether you can still repair/convert it? If you can, then how do I send it to you? Can I call you next week? Thanks very much Rich

Arrow does work of this nature on a regular basis! You have found an excellent forum here. There are MANY top notch guys on here that will help you out, covering the whole bike. That's what its all about. I sent you a private message (a pm).

Been busy at work, but have taken some of the main bits off the body. Discovered a rather nice rewire on an unknown fusebox! Bike looks a little grim with everything black. Stripped some of the engine too but need an impact driver to continue. The pump is in Arrow's hands having some beauty treatment! Still enjoying the forum and all the pics. Rich

Guy's, Arrow has done much head scratching over this particular job! Rich removed the worm from the bike which had the correct pitch for the 350, but it was the shorter worm from the A/C bikes. Has anyone ever seen this before? I will send the correct parts back. We never stop learning!

Nice language skills chaps.... the frog's legs down here are delicious! I need some advice guys and gals (I am assuming there are some like-minded ladies ! ?). I am checking the engine components before placing a bank breaking parts order. The clutch basket has some indents on the lugs, they are not deep, but will they cause problems? What is the cause? Appreciate your comments as always. Many thanks. Rich

Had the frame sand-blasted this week and will hopefully get it sprayed next week. Thinking about doing it matt black so the frame sits back and lets the shiney bits shine☺. Swing arm will be the same but maybe powder chrome - it might be a flip of a coin to decide. Rich

Ev'nin chaps, before I take the plunge, has anyone had experience with matt black frame painting? Does it look OK or just plain stupid? More importantly does it show up imperfections more than satin or gloss? Would appreciate your thoughts.

Salut Xavier,
Thanks for the info. Monsieur Arrow has renovated my pump and sent another worm drive to try. It should arrive next week so will know which one works. Yes my bike is a 1980 model. Thanks again for the info. I have visited your site already ☺ Do you live in France?
Cheers Rich

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your friendly words of encouragement, much appreciated. Can anyone confirm if the dog gears, on my driveshaft, are in the correct orientation or not? In my photo they are in line but in other photos I've studied they are offset. Does it actually matter? Cheers Rich

I got the frame back from being powder - coated this week. Very pleased with the finish and the guy was a bike nut too! I had some time this weekend to start putting things back together, makes a pleasant change from dismantling!.... Also received a rather nice delivery from Arrow (I know it's only a pump, but it's a work of art). Rich
