Had my 1995 DR350 winter bike for over two years now and after two winters use it was starting to get tatty. Totally original except for the rear exhaust can (and link pipe made from two stainless R1 link pipes welded together) I have the rear mudguard extension but looks better without. Rather than strip it completely, I removed everything off the rear of the frame, plus exhaust and oil pipes and rubbed it all down by hand. Quick splash of jenolite followed by a couple of coats of brush on zinc primer, then the crowning glory: some machinery enamel I found at work which was a perfect match! The front oil pipe was getting rotten so replaced that with one off eBay. Painted the underside of the tank in primer and white hammerite and swapped a load of tatty fasteners for stainless. The seat rail and mudguard brace were blasted, primed and painted too. It's only had two previous owners and I know one and have met the other. Just clicked 12000 genuine miles but am adding appx 4k a year to that. Rear has previously been respoked with stainless, gonna get the front one done to match then it should be ok for another 20 years. Often gets left for weeks on end and always fires up dead easy. Gives me 75mpg on a busy commute with optimax.
