I bought a bike off the bay a couple of months back, on a whim it caught my eye and had a reasonable BIN. So I did., not the hottest wheels but I liked the pics and more importantly I like the owner after a brief chat. I find you get a better idea of the purchase speaking to the owner than any flattering pictures can paint. Bike turned up, original from 88 bar the std exhaust with a folder of paperwork absolutely mint, it was probably under sold. My RD I bought was a different case but I took a chance and it's a tad rough, the pictures flattered it so much and when I collected it I was disappointed. Anyone else bought a bargain...or a mutt!

Not me, but a pal bought a 1976 RD250C a year back.
Not described particularly well on ebay and the photo’s did it no justice. It was relisted a couple of times.
My mate went to look, and found it had been completely rebuilt. Rechromed standard exhausts and all the other brightwork too. Stainless spokes . Paintwork was show quality. Would cost a fortune to restore to that condition. Rode it away for £2500…….
Git.

i always think i treat people how i would like to be treated , i understand its not like that . The owner of the 125 was not about only his mum so i said nowt collected it and got it home and started to strip it . its not as described but not a horror . i bought a lovely DT100 years ago off a guy outside Exeter , did a little work ...rechrome indicators and bits , ran it 3 years , sold it , made money , regretted stelling it . three maybe four years later i am after a zed thou....found one just outside Exeter , you guessed it ....same guy . Small small world.

Not stroker related, but found this advertised on Facebook Had a chat with the owner and as you say got a feel for the bike from that. Two owners, 8k miles and been stored for four years. Not mint, but cleaned up lovely and fast as f*ck for a 12 year old bike! Bargain

Bought the last four bikes on Ebay, all been ok, no total dogs.
All with unexpected issues / previous owners neglect. Nothing that could not be put right easily enough.
Not always a great choice of bikes for sale in Guernsey. Using shiply to deliver to ferry terminal at Portsmouth is cheap and easy. Condor Ferries are good at taking unaccompanied bikes.
Bikes were VT500E, GPZ305, GSXR400 & DT125R.

The VT was my daily ride, done me well for nearly four years 100% reliable, not bad for a 30 year old bike

I bought my stunning KR1 from a ad with only 1 sentence in the description and 2 cloudy photos from the MCN site, which isnt that popular.
The chaps wife was sick of it sitting in their front room for 2 years and advertised it on his behalf, when i went to view it, I couldnt believe how good it was, as he had two prospective buyers fail to turn up , I used that as leverage and ended up with a bit of a steal.
That said, I aint usually that lucky! Cant remember any other occasion than that!

Bought an RD250F just yesterday, unfinished project, engine rebuilt and runs very sweet, everything sorted except for the paint job and a few minor bits, price also included delivery . Very pleased ! Wasn't really looking to buy another yet but couldn't resist the price.

I have bought 8 bikes off ebay over the last few years and all have been described honestly. The Z1100R was an absolute bargain worth over double what I paid. Also the R1 4xv was even better than described. A bit of luck helps but I always view before handing over the dosh.
