Didn't someone use the otherwise Useless Clutch damper rings, sealing a DIY piece of Plastic ? To better see all that froth and condensation

it doesnt need the o-ring!
plus its EXACTLY the same size as a CD - get some clear perspex/lexan of about 6mm and cut round a cd.
buy the stainless plate from Norbo, use it to drill the holes, fit with a neat bead of sealer and its fine - well mine has been for 3 years now.
then, as bare says, sit back and enjoy the froth and milky condensation unless its a boiling hot summers day....

I did make 4 of these with o-rings on my lathe. I need one, and sold another, so I should have 2 left. I will look over the weekend if you want.
As bare said, don't necessarily expect to see lovely clear views of your clutch. Think of a washing machine running, and you'll get the idea.

If you have these on a lathe you could cut a grove for an o ring at the same time I guess?

Jonw, I did put a groove for an o-ring in them. I then measured the height of it above the face, and got some little ones that width to go round the screws so that no oil leaked through the threads on the bottom. Jon

Sorry Denzil,
I've offered the 2 I had to jonw and doohanno as they asked first.
I only had 2 so I will have to make another for myself, so could make more for others. Let me know if your interested.
Those 2 were 8mm thick Perspex for use without a trim. I will be trying 6mm perspex as well to use with a trim.

While " researching " about the clutch window i notice that most people drill a "daisychain" of holes and then file the rest out to the edge of the casing which looks very neat... If i was to attempt this i would probably make a b"""s of it .. So i was thinking of using a hole saw {so i can do one cut} to fit in between the three cover mounting screw holes.. Has anybody done it this way.. Do you think it would look okay when the lexan is fitted..?

I managed to make a few clutch wimdows in 6mm Lexan yesterday. Today I thought I'd better fit one to a spare side case I had. As doohanno asked, I chain drilled then filed, then used a rotary burr and finally sanded to create the hole. The little o-rings were a bit of a fiddle, but by tipping the case up were easily fitted. I'd worry about removing while on the bike in case they fell in the oil. I think I'll check the oil tightness without them out of interest to see if they are needed. Jon

Yes that looks very well. I will follow yuor guidlines. I don"t have the luxury of a spare casing so I"ll have a few Jemies to settle the nerves before using the drill.. Send me on the details so i can fix you up.. Tks..

Well I tested the covers without the little o-rings to see if oil would leak down the threads. I turned the case upside down a filled some oil, then left it on white paper overnight.
This may be a more harsh test than it goes through on the bike, but the result was that 2 of the screws showed the tiniest of oil marks on the paper where the screws were only (and I mean tiny) while the 3rd was bone dry. Maybe I did it up fractionally tighter, as a only just nipped them up. I lightly greased the big o-ring before fitting, and you could see it sealing through the window as I did the screws up.
I don't know if the oil level even reaches the bottom screw on a side stand.
So the long and the short of it is I really don't think it's a problem not to fit the little o-rings, but I would if I didn't intend taking off the window while on the bike.
I have ordered some 4.5mm o-rings instead of the 5mm I had to see if they grip the screw if it is removed on the bike.
To all of you that have PM me asking for one I will send you a PM tonight.
I should have some left for anyone else who's interested.
Price is £20 plus postage, so will be £22 including Royal Mail signed for.

Received mine on Thursday and what a gent you are. Even instructions to help the job along. First class. Top man.
On a separate note some people run automatic transmission oil in thir gear box as it always stays red and doesn't froth???
What is everyone's thoughts on this. Is it pish or viable as people have said ordinary light oil gear box oil froths when hot. ??
Thanks again Jon.

ATF does froth but maybe not so much, once the honeymoon period is over with the see through all is forgot about the colour in my experience!
