Lots of problems, most sorted now.
I had no drive between 2000rpm and 7000rpm. I was blaming jetting but in the end I found that the ignition was faulty. The loom had been cut and mended however the resistance values were correct. I had another generator plate so I switched and it started and worked well immediately. One week wasted!
The internal stingers were quieter but it is still quite noisy.
Now I have to jet my PJ 34s. They were pre-jetted by Roger with:
Pilot Jet 62, I changed to 60 but will need to reduce further.
Needle CEG (standard) clip in 4th from top. I lowered to 1st and it helped a lot and half throttle seem ok now but 1/4 is still rich. I am considering other needles like CGL
Main Jet 168
If anyone else with 421 and PJ 34s or similar has a recipe I am all ears.[/
Hi Bngt
I have the Keihin PJ 34 carbs fitted to my RD 421 with Athena cylinders. I bought this Wicked Kit from a Canadian Guy and it was pre jetted by Roger.
The jet sizes is the same as your pre jetted carbs. My bike run like shit because the jetting was way to rich from the bottom to the top.
I worked all the way down from pilot jet size 62 to 42 and main jet from 168- 160 and also tried my 48DGK needels from my PWK 35 carbs and they are to lean for the PJ carbs. Now I use 48DGH needels because the 48CEG from the pre jetted PJ 34 is to rich. My bike was useless around 3,500 to 5000 rpm. Now it runs like a champ with 160 main jet, 48DGH in groove 4 from top and size 42 in pilot jet and airscrews 2,0 turn out. I run the KOOSO EGT meter and reach up to 600 degrees. My pipes is also from Wicked and the stinger size is only 21 mm inside. My inserts is 21 cc and squish is 1,1 mm.
