Hi Mark How you doing mate It's only clean coz I haven't had it on the road yet !! Wiring is the next hurdle, then rad and I can fire her up. Thinking of going to the Excel bike show in February if you fancy it ? Dusty Went last year mate, don't waste your money Matt Hi Dusty, I'm good mate, hope your not too knackered after the marathon kitchen. I'm with Matt on this. I used to go to Allypally every year which was brill. Allypally stopped when the show started at Excel. I think Excel did a great job first year, about 6/7 years ago I think, but it's been worse every year I've been. 2 years ago about 20% of the show was a bmx course set up in the middle of the hall. With pushbikes riding round apparently racing. Suzuki didn't show and not many bikes from Yamaha as there wasn't much room. Not a lot of spares for sale either. So last year I didn't bother, and I get in for free!
I hope it's better, but I doubt it. Sorry to burst your Excel bubble Dusty, but I was bored after an hour. Stafford and the Ace Café were soooo much better. Cheers Mark

Ok Cheers for the heads up. I did Ally Pally a couple of years back and that was pretty bad too - Norbo's stand was the only good thing there. Maybe I will give it a miss then Dusty

Hi Bit of time on the blue hybrid today. Next job is electrics, and as I'm going with the F2 loom and associated parts, I need to mount the electrical boxes under the tank. As I'm running pod filters, I removed the airbox, allowing me room to mount an ally plate for the Cdi and pv controller. I did the same sort of mount on a previous hybrid build and it kept most of the components in the same place as they would be on an F2 valve; I need to swap the Lc switchgear and ignition switch for the pv items, and wire the Lc clocks into the F2 loom. Hopefully it should all be straightforward enough Dusty

Progressing nicely Dusty, have you test fitted the tank? as I had no end of grief trying to fit a dyna coil (was the other type TBF) but it highlighted how little room there is under the tank.

Hi Yea, tank fits with the Dyna, and the new plate that I fitted today. I left some cut outs at the front of the plate so the ht leads get a clear run down to the plugs. I might need to adapt the plate a bit more once I offer up the loom, but hopefully not too much. Dusty

Hi Couple of small jobs yesterday. I robbed the white bike of it's rear light/number plate bracket. It is in really nice condition and uncut, and I thought it would be better on the Hybrid, so I swapped the blue bikes cut version for this one; You can also see the indicator bracket from Nick Chambers that OEB linked on the forum a couple of weeks back. It's a bit stronger than the one I had fitted and is stainless, so no painting required. Whilst I was at it, I swapped some standard Lc type horns for some nicer ones hat were on the Marsbar hybrid. The issue is that the Rgv bottom yoke has no provision for the horn mount, so at the moment the horns are mounted to the sides of the headlight; I will have to make up a bracket at some point as I would prefer to mount them as per a standard Lc. The Marsbar has NK yokes which has the provision for the horn mount, but I don't intend swapping the yokes !! The white Lc is going to be the daily rider, and although I will improve certain areas, I don't mind using it as a parts donor. The previous owner bought a complete new lock set for it, so if I can get the Lc ignition barrel to work with the F2 loom, I might swap the locksets over. Dusty

Hi Steve I like the look of the twin horns set up on an Lc - always think it's part of the Lc look if you know what I mean. They are ok there for the minute, but they will get a bracket made at some point! Dusty

Cheers Matt I'm just going through the wiring diagrams at the moment. It looks like I can use the Lc ignition switch with the F2 loom. 6 wires in each, all colours match and in the same place in the connector block except 1 black/white wire from the F2 switch which is a separate bullet connector - related to the kill switch/Cdi I believe. It's handy as the Ypvs ignition switch is bulkier than the Lc switch, and it wont fit the lugs on the top yoke. It also means I can swap the entire, new lockset from the white Lc over to the hybrid. I need a good seat lock with the Guilari fitted !! Dusty

Hi The bars are Renthal straights. They started out as a standard matt black anodised finish that was worn away in places - they were second hand - so I polished them up on my buffing wheel to save buying another pair. As for carbs - I think Bare will recommend Keihins over standard. I do have a set of them on the 385 hybrid, and had considered trying them on this bike, but I want to get this up and running with a fairly standard set up first. I've fitted non powerjet Ypvs carbs to this as I thought getting them right with pod filters may be easier than the pj's. Plus I don't want to rob the 385 of major parts as it is the next project - hopefully this year. I'm not a fan of too many polished parts on these bikes. Where I have polished parts it's mainly to remove knackered/worn paint finishes on items like switchgear. The anodising on the forks had been polished off previously but it needed doing again. It's a horrible and very time consuming job and I haven't gone for a very shiny finish as it can be hard to keep it looking good. The 385 rgv forks have a newly anodised finish in black and I think they look as good. The colour of the bodywork makes a difference too - I think the blue on this bike works well with the polished parts - maybe not as good on a white bike maybe ? Dusty

Hi Yogi Haha, yea the van reflected really well on my clocks !! I bought the van to replace my worn out Golf estate, and the best part is I can get an Lc in the back if I swing the cage round inside Dusty

Cheers Mark Couple more small jobs done today. Fitted my HRC res tube which I may shorten a fair bit, and also offered up the rear brake caliper, which will need a coat of paint before the final fit; I also made a bracket for the twin horns. I wanted to fit them in roughly the same place as standard Lc horns to get the right "look". Just need to spray it up; Last thing was the grips. These were on the white Lc but as I had some standard grips for that, I put these blue grips on this bike I now have a set of 3 stripe decals so I plan on getting those fitted next - bit daunting as I've never done them before.

Hi Beautiful day here yesterday so a bit more done. I fitted the clutch cable - too long really coz of the straight bars, so I added an adjuster at the engine end - same adjuster you get at the lever - and it easily allowed me to get the correct adjustment for the clutch; I also had a new Renthal chain, so that's fitted now. Took a bit of messing with the front sprocket - I had a couple of offsets that were spares. I fitted the 5mm first but the chain was too tight to the inside of the frame and wouldn't run without slightly catching, so I fitted the new Renthal standard sprocket which moved the chain inboard by 5mm obviously and all was good. I trimmed up the chain protector that came with the swingarm, and that looks ok now it's fitted, plus it does a great job of stopping the chain sawing through the top of the arm !! I have ordered a lovely oversized rad from Martin at MBD, decals are here and awaiting fitting, and loom is ready to go on. Need a trick petrol cap and a couple of braided lines and hopefully all the parts are present to finish Dusty

Cheers Mark, In the end I just trimmed off the unused mounting hole and it looks much better, even though most of it is hidden under the chain. It's a must though - don't think the swingarm would win a fight against a rapidly moving steel chain without it !! Dusty
