I've got a ford transit connect, my lc fits in there well snug, sideways on so front wheel is at passenger seat and rear wheel is at back door, so 2 ratchet straps on either side of bottom yokes cable tie on front brake and she ain't going no where!

So after a few weeks of fannying about I've decided on a T5, ideally with a tailgate and reasonable mileage. Looks like a minefield out there tho with dodgy vans everywhere, have a feeling it'll be a long job finding one.......and it'll blow the budget too!

Probably a bit late as it sounds like you've made your mind up this my tupence worth. I look after a fleet of 8 vans at work. First we had Vitos- Rust before your eyes, fall to bits and noisy, very poor trade in value. Replaced them with Vivaros as we got them cheap, and it shows. Cheaply made, had nothing but problems with all of them Replaced injectors in 3 of them at £1500 a van. Gearboxes went in 3 of them. They started to fall to bits after 18mths. Lots of electrical faults as well. Very comfortable for long drives though. Finally got a fleet of Trannys 62 plates. Better built than the Vivaro but noisy, rattly engines. Started having electrical problems at around 50k. 2 of them have DPF problems at 50k, very expensive to sort, we've been quoted £1500-£2000 to replace. Spare wheels get nicked, just cut 1 wire. Spares wheel also seize in place.
I drive a T5 2.5 130bhp Combimyself after owning 3 T4's. Nice drive, mile muncher but not without it's own faults. Duel mass flywheel needs replacing after 80k. From 08 on they are fitted with the dreaded DPF. Mines started to give problems at 120k. The micro switches for courtesy lights pack up and are part of lock assy, very expensive, mines staying broken. Saying that they are better built, look good, very adaptable vehicle. I use mine for shifting bikes, camping, kite surfing most w/e's and you can get good money back for them s/h. Almost as bad as RD's for values!!
Good luck finding one, check out T4 Forum for info help etc.
Cheers.

I have a transit my last van was all so a transit . they are not the best but they are cheep and do the job . I went from a normal top to a semi Hi top and it was a good move for moving about in there . Im going to be selling it and getting a long wheel bace van next for doing the shows I reoly need more van space but at the same time im gowing to get a small car 950cc something like that for driving about as a long wheel back semi hi top van is to big for a day to day transport . the standard transits are just right for every day I think .

Avoid anything Renualt thats for sure, my 2 year old Laguna had a service December just gone, needed a new clutch and other smaller sundries...£2800 was the total bill... since the service its broken down 3 times, it was only finally fixed last week..dealer service is also by far and away the worst of any other manufacturer ive dealt with.

Further to the previous post memories come flooding back , the Saturday was a new era meet and on the Sunday there was a national or perhaps international car meet .following our Saturday excursions we stayed on for the car meet on the following day (after all we were there for free )and whilst wandering round the car paddock on the Saturday night I got talking to a really pleasant young guy from South America who was trying in vain to find some half decent valves that he could lap in ,from a rusty box full by his side . His mum and dad back in argentina possibly thought he was studying hard for exams in one of our prestigious universities.to cut a long and getting longer story short his name having driven admirably well on the Sunday in his race was, NELSON PIQUET I will never forget the impression of complete self belief that exuded from this guy and I watched his amazing career progress over the next few years
