Hi Nik Now the frame is all done, I didn't want to modify it for the R6 shock. I know what you mean though, I picked up a low miles R6 shock for my 400e special, and you get a lot for your money. I had considered doing the top mount mod before I had the frame coated, but wanted a shock that was specifically for the Ypvs. I know a lot of the US guys do the R6 mod, but there is some talk of the spring rate not being right. Cheers for the thought though Dusty

Yeah that link I sent was all about that issue, and hence why mike bought the WP shock as he couldnt find a spring rate he wanted.
I have the R6 shock in my F1, it feels ok, but I would also like to have a dedicated shock for that bike, same with the RGV version for my 83 and a couple of LCs, that is quite a sizable bill, so anything to lessen the blow would help of course....
I do wonder if the YSS issue is a problem with the manufacturing where someone fitted the wrong ends to that build, I find it hard to believe they could screw up so badly and not have had any back...

Well you wont be disappointed if you get a Nitron, they are a lovely shock I got a near mint one with remote preload adjuster for my KH, £200.00 off ebay. it was originally fitted to a 600 bandit but works really well in the KH, set it up for static sag & preload with my weight & the spring is just right but I do weigh 17 stone

I remember commenting on your Nitron - bargain of the year I reckon. I did watch the Nitron vid on youtube of them putting one together - no doubt, a top quality shock. It's been a mixed week all round. Got a nice Rentec rad guard off Norbo today, but due to the deeper rad and thicker upside down forks, the forks foul the guard on full lock So I cant use that either. Just goes to prove, money doesn't (necessarily) buy you happiness !!

Ahh, and remember that when modding you also have to take the rough with the smooth, but its often rougher as even uprated standard parts dont fit what you have. Ive lost count of the cool parts Ive bought that dont work as designed for various reasons, but the bike is always worth it when done, even if plenty of those who see it never notice, and in fact for many of us thats kind of the point, it should be invisible, ie like it was always there, even if clearly it was not. LOL
