yeah, bike loses power over 8,500rpm, so its either the cdi or lab seal at fault, fingers crossed its the cdi as I did have a problem with it last year, if not it looks like a new crank

Do you have to extend the slots in the stator plate to get the max base advance with the Ignitech unit fitted to a LC? The Ignitech setup looks a bit more comprehensive than the Zeel, will be interesting to see it fitted to Mick's bike.

muttsnuts is going to be fitting it for me but as far as I know yes the stator plate needs modifying. will take some pictures and either me or dave can do a thread if anybody is interested

Great - pictures are always useful! I saw the Ignitech on one of Trubrit's bikes but it was a YPVS bottom end. Will be interesting to see it fitted to a LC motor.

I have fitted a Zeel on my LC. Had a couple of spare stator backing plates slotted. If anyone wants one doing, let me know :-)

Don't just put any old curve in and hope for the best, as you can end up with a hole in your piston.... For every combination of pipes/fuel/compression/tuning/air-boxes/carbs you will need a different ignition curve. A TZ curve will only be optimum for a TZ with TZ carbs/pipes/airboxes etc. If you change one thing, then the ignition will need to be redone to suit. I am lucky to know someone local who can setup ignition curves on the dyno. We get good results and much cheaper than a rebuild! :-) He is on this forum as "elegy". His name is Dave Reynolds and is based in Dudley. Dave really does know his ignitions. He has fitted a Zeeltronic to my acrd/ypvs project and will be setting it up on the Projex dyno, once I finish the bike which will be very soon. He has also fitted a bespoke programmable zeeltronic to my aircooled rd 400, using a pick up set up from various bikes. The ignition is working well and was being set up on the dyno when the oil pump failed ending in a seizure. Engine rebuild soon pump has been refurbished by Arrow then back to Dave for set up at Projex.

I'm a bit green here with these new fangled spark boxes ! between the two discussed here are there any pro's and con's?
It would be for a race LC so prefer self generating ie replacing all the oem ignition parts. What about the coils - are they provided ?

To jools.....
Performance wise, there is not much to choose. Both Zeeltronic and Ignitech do the job.

yeah you can get rid of the original cdi with the ignitech, it has its own built into the unit

Zeeltronic has the CDI built in , has a hand held programmer to program in curves, holds up to 9 curves (good for road or trackside use when testing) handle bar switch available to switch between 2 curves. Both units do the same job, but in my opinion the Zeeltronic is more versatile.

programer £60 Ignition Box £110. Optional up graded CDI to run with ignition box £70
All in 1 unit with PCDI-10 ignition & cdi £180 then £18 for the lead things start to add up, suppose this is going to be like the 80's team allspeed or team micron

I'd say that both are more than capable units for our old bikes, the race version of the ignitech is every bit as good as the Zeel and as versatile, plus becuase you use a laptop, you can save and hold as many maps as you like, the race versiobn allows you to store 2 maps in the Unit and you can switch it by the means of a seperate switch or you can program one of the outputs to do the switching, so you could in thoery nominate your horm for example !, the other thing the ignitech does is it can switch to another map automatically at a predefined RPM, so saving the need for a switch in some respects.
We will be having a good play on Saturday with it on my bike again before doing Micks, plus we will baseline Micks bike first before fitting the unit so thast we can see a direct comparison between stock setup an dthe unit fitted
