Hi, My initial plan was/is to go premix, but even if I do, I still want an oil tank to hold oil which I then draw oil from with a graded syringe to add to the petrol tank. I've always done this as it's easier than carrying bottles of two stroke. I'm not sure what capacity this tank will have, but probably half to three quarters of a litre. The mk 2 version is being sellotaped together at the moment - slightly longer and narrower than the one in the pics. The wooden seat base will bolt to the frame, with a hole bored in it to reveal the filler hole in the tank below it. When the fibre glass seat is removed you'll be able to access the tank via the hole.. I've sent some info to the fabrication fella so hopefully get an idea on price soon. Regards Dusty

Yep I know what you mean Dusty, I bought an ohlins for my zx7r about 10 years ago. I can see the practicalities with the l tank. Good luck.

Hi, Nitron now fitted, went in without issue; Still waiting on a quote for the oil tank, so I'm going to get on with the electrics - my favourite job - NOT !! Dusty

Really coming together nicely Dusty. Just scrolling through the photos of freshly painted or cleaned parts can bring on a strange c**ktail of tranquility and excitment. I'm with you on the electrics too!

Hi Andy, Yep, electrics are the bit I hate most, but in reality, it shouldn't be that bad. I'll let you know !! Got a quote of £70 for the bespoke oil tank. That's supply, make and post, which I think is pretty good. I plan to go for it, but it will be a couple of weeks I expect. I have made a better template, and it will fit into the frame nicely. Dusty

Hi Oil tank template was sent off today, so hopefully I'll have a nice bespoke tank back in a couple of weeks. Been sorting the wiring today, and everything is working except the neutral light in the Lc clock binacle Bulb is good as I had it lit when I touched it against the backlight feed, and bike is in neutral. Really annoying ! Only thing I can think is maybe something to do with the side stand switch. The switch module is wired in, but on my old Lc/F2 hybrid, there was a 2 spade plug in the loom which had a loop of wire attached to fool the system. I haven't got that plug in this loom ? Cant think that would stop the neutral light working though. Only other problem is my indicators wont flash - they light up as they should but wont flash at all. Earth possibly ? Dusty

Hi Electrics sorted Indicators now flash - dodgy relay that worked on the Yamasaki but threw it's toys when I moved it across to this build. Also got neutral light working, so wiring is done. Last thing I need to do is extend the wiring from the rear brake pressure switch as I want to run it up the frame tubes and under the tank so it's hidden as much as possible, but that's an easy job. Got a couple of quotes for paint this week. Tz style scheme, so white tank and seat with a red stripe running down the middle. No side panels and the mudguard is fine so just the tank and seat - both quotes are £400, one is plus vat. I thought that was a bit steep, but maybe I'm out of touch. May leave the tank as it is and do a rattle can on the seat unit for the moment. Other thing is seat pad. I don't want a race style foam as they are no good comfort wise. I had thought about getting an F2 seat foam and cutting it down and shaping it for the race seat, and trying to keep a bit of the elevated part at the front so as to hide the join between the seat and the tank. Still thinking about that. More soon Dusty

Hi, Here is the pic of the oil tank template; It's the mk2 version, slightly narrower and longer than the first one. Filler is nearer the back too. Fabricator is busy with site work but I'm in no desperate rush. Brake line is now on at the back and I have extended the brake pressure switch wiring too. Headlight wiring is getting tidied up and then the lens can go back on. Dusty

Brilliant build mate. As always, great attention to detail. Nice oil tank template. My templates always end up in the bin and look like failed origami !

Cheers Guys, My templates don't normally look as neat as that one!! The fabricator was impressed with the use of the drinking straws on the mk 1 version Looked for ages for a ready made tank that I could have utilized somehow, but this was the only way to get something that was "right". I'll post some pics when it's done. Dusty

I thought my restore was complicated

Hi Not complicated really, but no matter how much you plan for a special, it always seems you have lots of "snagging" jobs left to do. I did an Lc/ Ypvs F2 Hybrid a couple of years ago using Lc clocks with F2 loom, and got the wiring right first time. Even kept a wiring guide for the future but it still took some time to get it all working. I'm trying to hide the wiring as much as possible which means extending/shortening wiring and relocating components. An item like the ignition barrel is a bulky thing to "lose", but with some thought I found somewhere for it. A standard build would be a lot easier in that respect, but I am always drawn to doing specials Dusty

Hi Got some more jobs done this week. Made up a small rubber guard to keep the Nitron clean; I made a small bracket from aluminium angle, and that bolts through 2 convenient holes in a brace under the shock bracket. It will hopefully keep the worst off the shock. Also got some BBQ paint yesterday, and the first pipe is done and warming nicely in front of the garage rad; I've decided to polish the end cans too, nothing too bling but I thought it would look better with the black pipes. Will go with Ceramic coating in the future but couldn't afford it at the mo. Also, for the time being, I am keeping the tank paint as it is, and will rattle can the seat myself. I am thinking of putting race plate vinyl on the sides of the seat to go with the race seat theme. The cardboard mock up doesn't show too well in the pic; Not sure what colour background to go with yet. Still unsure as to whether to go with a central speedblock down the centre of the seat as well. You can also see in that last pic that I finally cut off the side panel lugs on the tank. No going back !! Dusty

Pipes finished and back on the bike; Glad I spent some time on them, I think they look better in black with the polished cans, Next little job is to make a bracket for the newly arrived temp gauge; Dusty

Hi No matter how I tried, I couldn't get the new temp gauge to fit in the recess under the clocks using the bracket on the bars, so I had to do something different. I had some thin aluminium sheet down the shed, and after drawing up a card template, I made up a new bracket; I bent it to the right angle, and although the gauge isn't fixed, you get the idea of how it will look; Oil tank should be back this week, so seat base will come off for the final time hopefully. Then respray the seat, and the last job will be make up a seat pad and then it's pretty much done Dusty

Hi, Thanks for the comments The oil tank arrived today, and I'm really pleased with it; Rich Ellis, the fabricator, has made a lovely job of it and it's exact to the dimensions I sent him. I did measure the amount of oil it will hold and it's just over a litre. Now I've got to decide if I'm happy with premix or do I go autolube ? Dusty

Not only does the bike look the bizz check out the garage, radiator, carpet, plastered painted walls, skirting and even what looks like an oak window board. Better spec than my lounge. Nice one Rich.
