Hi, It's a Kawasaki KH triple engine, not sure of the cc though. It was parked in the camping area when I took the pic and never saw it do a run. Stan Stephens built an Lc with a 500 triple engine in. It was in a MCM mag a few years back. 1 of the mags I need to scan Dusty

Nice one nik, i knew someone would identify it. Seems a pointless swap really as i would imagine lc engines were plentifull in breakers back then, assuming he blew up the original and had a kh lying about Dusty

Love the pics Dusty, thanks for putting them up. A couple of the bikes look familiar. They ALL look more exciting / interesting than modern busas blackbirds etc.

Hi, Superbike magazine used to run the Ultimate Streetbike competition, and a lot of the bikes and riders were featured in the mag back then. It's a shame I don't have many of those mags in the loft to scan, think my bro had the majority of those. Happy days tho.

Notice the leathers worn over the boots to aid drag...WSB and moto gp riders started to do this a few years ago...next they will lining up on the grid with bleached jeans and trainers..!

Nearly flipped my GPZ1100 at Santa Pod - my first time drag racing, me thinking it would be easy. Loads of rubber on the track from the cars so easy to spin the back and then traction and big wheelies. I was a complete novice.

Great photos Dusty! Really bring back the memories. We used to go every year to the Ultimate Street Bike event at the Pod back in the day - Always a great weekend, full on fun and the evenings were just totally mad!!!
We started going again recently but it's just not the same anymore. Its gone all 'Health and Safety' these days! (I got 'done' for riding about without a lid!!!) But its still a great place and I love going!!

I remember this as well, used to go quite a bit, got loads of similar pics too, can't see any 'mullets' in any of your pics What happened to Bill Hunter, started getting bigger and faster each time we went?

One of the best races I have ever seen was at this event when my best mate Biddy on his TTS Moriwaki 1105cc engine Z1000A special raced against a local guy Wayne on his tuned GS1000S Harris Mk2, there was always a grudge match who had the fastest bike and who could pull the longest wheelie so they went up against each other at the final race of the day, every one including the track organisers were in on it and the atmosphere was electric ......... Biddy beat Wayne hands down on both accounts .........the crowd went mad!!
The opening picture from magazine article the following month showed the evidence as you can clearly see him still in front of the Harris and still on one wheel
WOW what a race and RIP Biddy
