I need to reprint my 250lc exhausts, just wondering what paint is best for standard finnish. Last time I did them I used some paint from yambits which looked really good untill I used the bike then it went patchy. Any ideas?

Two week turn around. £160 plus vat for complete job (but I took mine there as only 20 miles away). Good for 1000 degrees C headers still like new. Its a long lasting finish.

They bake the pipes first before application of the coating. No worries if oil is in them. They do exhaust manifolds for cars to so I think not a problem with your expansions, give them a call. Decent helpful bloke on the end of the phone too.

Plastikote BBQ paint works well. Needs curing within 8 hours. I did mine like this (after de-cokeing!)

I used this ceramic engine enamel from Duplicolour as a trial on my RZ pipes. Also used it on engine cases. The semi matt is nice and the gloss isn't too shiny either www.duplicolor.com/products/enginePaint/

We have a powder coating paint line at work. Occasionally we do a run on black. I've been thinking about putting my LC pipes through it sometime.
Do you think a powder paint finish will be heat resistant, particularly for the down pipes?

I've learnt the hard way and through experience that the Plasticote BBQ paint either needs to be cured withing the 8 hours or left for several weeks before running up to temperature on the bike. If you don't either cure it straight away, or leave it a few weeks, it will bubble and blister just like any other non heat resistant paint . I usually paint my exhaust when I'm not going to be using the bike for a few weeks and the paint stays perfect The heat gun is a good idea though, as longs as it doesn't catch fire and burn the Garage down.....

I had my pipes powder coated, bloke said would be fine and would not come off or bubble as they melt after 300 degrees of heat ,don't no how much heat comes off a running bike

I have used Dupli-color supertherm with good results, but with painting exhausts i have found prep is key and not laying to much on, build up the layers slowly.

I don't know if this is true, but while in the UK recently (got back this morning) I visited several B&Q stores to get some Plasticote Satin BBQ paint. Not one of them had any. As a final resort I tried Homebase with the same result and to be told by the assistant that they are no longer making it What gives ? everytime a decent paint is found they stop making it !!!!

I wonder if they have just stopped stocking it during the winter months due to people not using their BBQs ect. Halfords are still stocking the Hammerite BBQ paint - I've not used it but it can't be much different from the B&Q stuff.

I've used the Techcote Satin black that Busters and M&P sell, couldn't find the B&Q, Wilkos or Plasticote BBQ paint anywhere! Seems pretty good, gives a nice finish but you need to build it up in layers, cured it with a hot air gun so we'll see how it lasts

Hi,
I also used the head gut to "burn" the paint in... It´s a good method!!

One down one to go, looks good so far first time using plasti kote bbq paint I'm impressed Not sure how my H&S guy at work would perceive this! Lol. Looks good though. Did you de-coke them first? I've just bought some Hycote VHT paint and going to give that a go on a sample piece of tube first. We have a big oven at work as part of our paint track, so going to put the pipes in there to cure once i get round to painting them. I think i'm going to decoke with caustic soda first though.

Yeah decoked them with the heat gun steamed to work ok, stand back I had flames shooting out. I did the same tried it on a piece of tube first. Not sure what they would say at work if they new what I was doing eather, but only 2 of us here today and the other one is my dad so we'll be ok.
