Bought a 2004 cat d Fazer 1000 last year and have now got all the little niggles sorted and looking good. Was only a light fall over so no more than some scuffed bodywork and a damaged exhaust, thank god for crash bungs. Repaired the bodywork and sprayed with paint from bikepaintermal off ebay. This is the original pics from the ebay add Still can't beleive it was written off. It had been recovered ( hence the dent on the exhaust from a tie down strap ) so think there must have been an injury. The owner was a woman from Wales who must have been vertically challenged as the seat was cut down and the suspension on the softest setting. Looking at the fact the top fairing was not original point to it not being the first time it has fell over. Need to get some pics of it repaired but basically it has had the panels repaired, seat recovered, serviced, exup freed off, new can, an undertray fitted and all the rusty fasteners including disc bolts replaced and the wheel paint touched up along with all the fairing brackets powdercoated so now looks quite nice. Beautiful big comfy grunt monster but the problem is compared to the YPVS it feels a bit soft so time for some change. Just bought a set of 4XV R1 USD forks of the bay and front wheel and brakes are a direct fit so no problems there. Also got a set of these being made to make it all fit. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230867373280?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649R1 forks are 40mm shorter so they allow the forks to be dropped to compensate. Will upgrade the tired rear shock and get an ivans full monty carb kit to replace the power and throttle response the robbed the R1 motor of. Will also get rid of the crap emmisions kit off the top of the engine to save some weight and stop finger loss while doing supposedly simple jobs like changing the plugs. Steve

Fairing sanded back, filled, primed, painted and then air dry 2k clear coat. Rattle cans made to match and repro decals Front muddy given the same treatment, changed from metalic black to silver storm Seat given the Roger Dennis treatment Exhaust can cut off from 60mm link pipe and Pipewerx cal fitted to it Undertray matched to the metalic black and good seat unit found on ebay. Yamaha had some strange colour schemes. Crap pic, looks like the next doors wheely bin is attached. Have another tank and fairing which will eventually be painted in something a little different. Need to decide on a colour for the wheels before powder coat. Got a pair of Bridgestone BT016's for it so the BT020's will be going. Steve

Nice. I had a 2004 fazer thou for 3.1/2 years from new and over 30,000 miles with no problem apart from a fork seal. Checked the valves at 24k and they were all mid limit too.. It still looked like new when I traded it in too.

It still looked like new when I traded it in too. This is my second one, bought the first new in 2003, barrel rolled it highsiding at Knockhill in 2005, it only had 3500 miles on it. Fixed it but could not gel with it again so bought a new R1 in 2006, then tried a Fireblade but have went back to the old Fazer as my wrists can't take it any more. Went for the old one as I fancied modding it from the start. It has 27k on it so problem is I have no idea if the valves were checked at 24k but reassuring to know yours were fine. Doubt they were checked as engine oil was burgandy, never seen oil like that before although it was written off in 2010 so was lying in a warehouse for 2 years. Steve

Got the R1 forks back from Maxton, all sorted for the Fazer now, just need to paint the bottoms. Also got this Adjustable preload, rebound damping and high and low speed compression Should stop it squatting and wallowing. I'll get the wheels off tomorrow and take them to get the tyres off ready for coating. Steve

I've had several Fazer 1000's and always liked them. I think the engines feel a bit lazy compared to more modern fuel injected bikes, but they go pretty well. This one has the full Ivan's upgrade (think it was called the "Full Monty" ??), the rear end raised a bit and the front end dropped through the yokes as much as the flat handlebars would allow. Made it turn a lot better and still comfy to ride . I sold it in the end cos it just seemed so slow compared to my GSXR1000 but they are different animals for different purposes for sure

Had lots of Fazer FZS1000 and FZ1's over the years and a few FZ6's. Loved them all. had some project bikes that needed a bit of work and some fairly new ones. Couldn't fault any of them. Great ride, especially as you get a bit older and things 'hurt' when in sports mode! Given them up for a wheel to re-live my youth on a 350LC after a 30 year lay off. I hope I won't be disappointed.

Got a set of tie bars to raise the rear and with the forks being 40mm shorter there is plenty of scope to drop the front end. It's the comfort with the performance that attracted me back. The R1 and the last Fireblade killed my wrists. Love it as nice and lazy on the bottom end but awesome above 7k Steve

Was on holiday last week and managed to shatter the needle roller bearing in the rear wheel taking it out so a few delays. Got a local engineer to weld a disc in the old bearing shell and drive the remains out so wheels masked up and dropped off at powder coaters to get done in titanium silver along with a dozen brackets and bits to get done matt black. Fitted the yokes with new taper bearings. Firstly cannot believe a modern bike still comes from the factory with ball bearings in the steering. Secondly they fit perfectly, just needed to file a little off a raised bit on the ignition switch that just clashed. My bike friendly local engineer also made me some sleeves to take up the extra depth in the top yoke from dropping the forks through to make up for the shorter fork and a little extra to quicken the steering. Got some Yam engraved caps for the tops to make the adjusters easy to get at. Should get the stuff back from the coaters Friday. Paintjob will probably wait till next winter as I blew the budget for it on a pair of Galfer discs to go along with the brake overhaul which is the next job. Paint all good now anyway. Steve

Been a while since I have updated this so here's the progress so far Cheap Chinese levers fitted, Cost £16.99 posted and to be honest I cannot fault them Rad Guard and inner grill p/coated matt black front brakes stripped, cleaned, painted and new seals fitted along with new pads. Galfer discs with stainless disc bolts and caliper mounts Horn and brake line guide bolted to yokes Font muddy colour matched ( excuse the dirty bits from handling ), Venhill lines and newly coated front wheel with some sticky rubber Rear hangers stripped, p/coated and refitted with stainless bolts Frame plates coated and fitted with laser cut blanks Rear brake also given a full rebuild and wavey disc fitted. Torque arm coated and all fixings changed to stainless Rear shock in and shorted tie bars fitted Rear wheel coated, sprocket and carrier cleaned up and matching rear rubber Already fitted a new lock set hence the nice olive seat and helmet lock. Ignition set on the old one was a bit sticky and amazingly found the complete set on ebay for £60 which is about the price of the fuel cap alone. Bled up the front brakes tonight so just got the rear to do and refit the fairing and exhaust. Need to hurry up as got an Lc2 getting dropped off soon. Steve

Really need to do some update pictures.
Never really used it last year as was busy and it was plagued with a sticking experience valve and a misfire.
Just put it back together after doing the valve clearances (what a big crap job) as well as fitting an emissions removal kit (massive difference to servicing now with all that crap away from the top of the motor)
Exup now sorted with a new valve, end plate and bushes.
And finally the bit I am most looking forward to trying out is the ivans jet kit fitted which is a bit of a faf but should be worth it.
God i prefer working on 2 strokes
Steve
