Today i used Kees's 4LO and went into the center of Rotterdam for a medical check up (work). I had a CO2 meter in my rucksack and every time i stopped at the traffic lights it went off. Twice i was warned by the public about the peeping noise in my rucksack Why measure co2 in your rucksack? or was this fartometer part of your medical check up?๐๐

In Utrecht in the veterinary hospital they have gas engines. There is also a special meter for detecting any gas leaks i farted next to it to see if it would detect the fart. Sometimes i think Dutch people don't have a sense of humour. I have drain holes in my Rucksack so i can only guess the fumes can enter through those. I ended up putting the meter in my water proof pocket as people seemed to be annoyed or jumpy about the noise.

Got a genuine Yamaha gear linkage with a box of spares I bought so fitted it to my N1. Much better quality than the pattern ones.

Moved her over so could fit in a '75 H2. Paying for buying it on flea-bay in spades....it's 'restored'. I would never sell a restored bike with: a well slack drive chain (at least it's new) neutral light don't work, front brake stop light switch dead, oil pump dripping, dent in tank I didn't see in the pics, oil pump doesn't seem to be adjusted right, rear brake adjusted so it was practically locked, inside of tank not pretty, a 'reconditioned frame' with rust on it, one carb a leaky, barrels/heads painted silver....even still...I think I love it though. Need to find the equiv of this wonderful forum.

I got my 4LO out of its Vac bag winter slumber tonight. I now have my new genuine mounting bolt from Fowlers and a box of goodies from Norbo this week to get it up and running. I will swing by on the way back from work tomorrow for a gallon of Shell premium and see if I can wake it into life. Oh want to clean some grime off the chain , whats best? Was thinking of a bit of paraffin on a paintbrush them wipe clean and a good chain lube. Hope to take it over the the Chartley cafe on the A518 Stafford/ Uttoxeter road for a breakfast treat on Sunday morning if all good.

If its gubbed or suspect, Id get it a new one, as Elsie is worth it ! I did have a chain break once on my Zed, while I was driving it......... which was quite alarming ! Ever since then, I always keep my chains tip top. Hi . I would hope the chain isn't shot yet ! Its only done around 2000 miles. I fitted a premium DID chain when I restored it a few years ago. Latest today is I have the back wheel out , cleaned the spocket up , fitted the new cush rubbers from Norbo, rebuild kit in kickstart pivot, fixed one of the rad cover screw bollof type things. New engine mount bolt fitted, ordered a new master cylinder cap rubber gasket from Norbo also, so had the lid off and while in there flushed the brake fluid through with some new, suprised how the old stuff had gone off, considering the bike is summer use only and never sits out. So all in all a good day.
Steven, you mentioned a chain breaking, and me on about the cafe on the A518 road near me. Back in about 1984-5 I was coming back from collage at Stafford one day on the white LC and just before the mentioned cafe and the chain broke on that bike, lucky didn't wrap, just fell on and sat in the road, I coasted to the said cafe which back then was a small family filling station and a logging yard/farm. I knew the owners through tractor work I parked my bike up there and got my folks to pick me up. Went back next day/ weekend ? can't remember with a new chain. I was short of money back then like us all, and the bike was all I had, so the poor white LC had a hard life on the road all year round taking me to work everyday, than thrashed to its limit at the weekends! Funny how one comment rolls into another. But I would turn the clock back in a flash, great simple times back then.
Alex.

Fitted a new centre clutch bronze bush to the hub, and while i was at it fitted a billet alloy basket as well (thanks Norbo and Martin, MBD), the N1 sounds a lot quieter now. Check out the old damper rubbers, some had shrunk, all others, well you can see! Andy. IMG_2752 by Andrew Jolly, on Flickr

Dropped my crankcases of to have them sand blasted and aqua blasted. Also needs a snapped cylinder stud drilled out and re-tapped. Got done by a speed camera on my way there too. That's what happens when you're stuck behind a lane hog for three bloody miles on a dual carriageway.

I've now been playing with these engines for about 5 years and in that time I've learned that a lot of the parts are not what they are supposed to be. If I build an engine. I measure almost all the components. Last night I found an output shaft which was bent on the side of the idler gear. Visually the shaft looked very nice.

Ripped my back out lifting the engine back in Was hoping to finish the bike this week while Iโm off No chance now Bad back is a bugga, I'm the same, need to manage things best I can, Sometimes fine with twinges, other days its hell. I got a mate to help me put engine back in, it's not heavy but you are leaning away and you don't want to rest it on an newly painted frame. Whilst I'm on this page, i also started up my 350LC today for first time this year, started first kick and had a nice 40 mile blast out. Happy days.
