being that I is daft , is 125 ml of oil per 10L of gas not 80;1 ? 10000 divided by 125 = 80 my cr5 runs 50;1 100ml of oil per 5L of gas so would of thought 125 of oil and 5Lof gas at 40:1 I could be wrong anyone use Maxima 927?? , I use it on my cr5 , its castor based and supposedly fully bio-degradable (smells nice too )

It's easy if you start with the volume of oil first and buy the volume of fuel to match
25 : 1 1000cc oil = 25 litres petrol 500cc oil = 12.5 litres petrol 100cc oil = 2.5 litres petrol
30: 1
1000cc oil = 30 litres petrol 500cc oil = 15 litres petrol i.e. approx volume of an LC fuel tank just after you run onto reserve 100cc oil = 3 litres petrol
35 : 1
1000cc oil = 35 litres petrol 100cc oil = 3.5 litres petrol
40 : 1
1000cc oil = 40 litres petrol 100cc oil = 4 litres petrol
etc. etc.

Mine is about 33-1
So for 5 litres of fuel I put in 150ML so 10 litres of fuel 300ML
Rounds the numbers up

I do 50:1 premix in my KTM 300xcw.
2.5oz oil to a gallon of fuel.
Easy as. Just get a small bottle with a secure screw-on lid and mark off 2.5oz.

The modern injected KTM's average out around 100:1.

Maybe thats down to the modern performance of oils. My wife's car (Volvo xc60) has 0w/20 oil in the engine. I suspect its to aid MPG but I do have reservations about the grade.

Lots of info in the threads above but I am still left thinking what is the best ratio for LCs then? 🤔
Back in the 80s I experienced a failed oil pump so ran my LCs on tank mix using Silkolene Comp 2. To save the constant maths I carried a marked bottle and used that at every refuel (you know, when petrol was £1 a gallon!!). I feel like 32:1 was the ratio I went by at the time but now I am doubting myself!

My 400 engine is also premix, a pain in the arse but i know the oil i use is excellent quality.
If i'm going for a pootle i try to keep it at 40:1 because the people i ride with complain about the smoke, but if im going for a spirited ride or anything where i'm going to rag it is also mixed at 28:1

Yes your right Jim. It doesn't really bother me and i can just about notice it. It runs a little bit more fluffy in the lower rpm and throttle at 40:1. Mostly it's used at 28:1 ratio and thats were i adjust the carbs. I ride my bike the whole year around and on average adjust the carbs twice a year unless its really hot weather.
