Just re read your thread, here is a link to a bike I started a few years ago, some similaritys. This same bike now has Kenny TSA Stainless pipes and is about to get some PWKs, are you running the KR1 N68x needles or have you gone the JJh route. PS nice bike you have there but I am amazed you are running cool enough temps with the standard RAD capacity, spose it's cool enough over your way. i1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii631/seahorse41/DSCF1792.jpgSorry mate, never noticed your post till I went back in to add some pics. Yes definitely some similarities, looking good. Standard rad binned and the first higher capacity one burst so running the alloy 40mm core one now. Maybe look at a fan as runs cool enough till I get stuck in traffic. I have JJH needles fitted but using the airbox. If using pods the N68's seem to be better Steve

Finished for the year my arse!!! Always worried about the supposed fragile nature of the RGV sprocket carrier and the rarity of them so alternative wheels were always going to be on the list. I now have a GSXR 400 wheel in black with spacers and caliper mount made to fit but in the process also picked up a 400 bandit rear and 600 bandit front so modded them to fit and coated gold for a different look. Cheers guys, had been deliberating the gold wheels for a couple of years now but glad I did them now. Not tried it on the road yet, dropped the rear from 150 to 140 to see if it makes it turn easier. Looks more egg shaped so should have a bigger contact patch on its side. Will see on Saturday how it does on the dyno Steve

you want me to bring my gizmo's and jets etc in case it needs tweaking ? Yes please. Will have the zeel programmer with me but if you have the laptop kit I have heard that is easier. Been so long I can't remember how to do it. Think I have spare 68 needles (jjh fitted). Had it on 135 mains but was lean last time so fitted 140 but fitted v4 reeds at same time so may have thrown things out further so if you have mains (button type) that would be good. Now down at 36 pilots as was machine gunning at steady throttle but over 2 turns out on the air screws and it has all but gone. Steve

ok, I'll see what I have, not got the laptop zeel program, will see if I can get hold of a copy etc, suspect its a serial fly lead anyway, which I have
will be interesting to see what we can do
Maybe bigger pilots will help as they do affect the whole rev range unlike the Mikuni's, its finding the balance really

It did not like the bigger pilots. Have tried 42, 40, 38 and 36. It ran like the choke was on and would stutter on neutral throttle. It did get a lot quieter as I downsized. Will be good to see what the mixture is really like. Steve

Steve, how did yo set up your cable operated choke? did you use an old throttle cable spliter unit? Bought a venhill universal throttle cable kit and soldered the ends to fit. It has a splitter so easy to use the Kwak or tzr chokes. The old xs lh switch looks the same so can easily be fitted with lc2 internal wiring. You can also fit the tzr cables and choke lever fits either on the frame or mounted to a reed valve bolt as an alternative Steve

Is the switchgear off an XS 400? Just got to keep my eyes open for an RGV front and back end for sensible money. Seeing bikes like yours is emptying my piggy bank.

Yes the one I used was nos from Germany listed as Xs400
If you search they are easily recognised as look exactly the same as lc2 one but with the choke on the bottom. I think the choke bit can be screwed off and fitted to the lc2 one as you will notice holes in the bottom.
Just make sure it has the pass switch as all models did not have it.
Cape was quite simple once you get used to soldering the ends. High power solder iron, splay the ends in the nipped and give the strands a file to get the zinc plating off.
Best to practice on the spare bits in the kit.
I also got a screw on barrel for the knob end if you pardon the phrase. Saved soldering and allowed me to try it for length before nipping up to get it exact.
Steve

I've read this (ie skimmed) a couple of times, and picked up some nice tips, what happened to the 'cool head' I see it's not fitted in the end? (sorry if I missed it?)

It was a reprofiled o ringed head by slinger for the long stroke conversion. Think you can get domes for the cool heads to do the same Steve
