Thanks everyone, as i posted earlier its nice to share with 'like minded' people.. some people just don't get it.... Shytalks F1 is impressive too,, (forgot to mention that earlier!)
ib; luckily the switch gear was in a pretty good state when i got it with bike ,, i justed sprayed some satin black into lid of tin and touched up with airfix brush!! took a few coats but turned out quite well..
Norbo, opps, all is not quite as it seems i actually got the bike october 2010 spent that winter stripping it and getting it to a rolling chassis. then left it all last summer. (im busy working and riding then) i started again september ish last year.... i just never posted pictures at the right time, but i always intended to create a rebuild thread.. So im not as quick as you Think!!
Little question; has anyone got any tips on gloss finish on plastic chain and flywheel cover, mines all scratched and marked, Paint?Polish?? or can u still get NOS? (Though the NOS route is getting a bit silly and expensive now)

Few more shots of where im at,, Soaked the rear footrests in oil for 2 days,, screws for rubbers came off fine for 1,, the other BUGGER, both snapped off, wheres my drill?? Unfortunately this is not a matching frame, engine, bike but im not that bothered,, BUT has anyone got any ideas for frame plate?? there was not one on when i got it, but i think it needs one ?? any old one just to make it look right?? does someone make copies?? maybe even quality sticker?? what with all these nicked bikes and cars someone must make them!! lol...

BUT has anyone got any ideas for frame plate?? there was not one on when i got it, but i think it needs one ?? any old one just to make it look right?? does someone make copies?? maybe even quality sticker?? The problem you are likely to find with that plate is it also has the frame number on it to match the number on the headstock. Not sure what to suggest . Maybe someone else has had this and dealt with it? Cheers BM

I agree it must be possible to get a new one made with the numbers hammered in, someone must do it... i know classic cars have new ones fitted during restos.

I have a frame plate from an F2 if you want something to put there / play with, obviously there is a number already stamped on it. If you're going down the correct screws route then I'd change that jubilee clip on the water hose before putting the engine in the frame, its easier done out of the frame. Looking very nice as well.

Thanks "Shytalk" Cheers for the offer for the F2 plate, yes i would like it to have a mess with it ..., shoot me a text on 07904115817 to do a deal, i was thinking of giving (kateannwells who sells all the old style stickers on e-bay) a ring thought maybe if i sent her the plate she could copy it and make a foil sticker with my engine number on,, i could simply stick it on the plate then rivet the whole lot on...
As for the jubilee clip, when i first started this build my intention was to put original fasteners where you can see them and not bother where there hidden... The jubilee clips were put on when i had the engine rebuilt and to be honest i was just gonna leave them,,, but like you say they will be a bugger to change once engines in... sooooo ive just ordered 2 nice original clips, whats another £2.50? This is getting very silly i keep receiving expensive tiny little parcels.. This is my first re-build, if i ever do another one not sure i would go the standard way again... But i cant stop now...... and i am quite enjoying it...

Have not posted for a while,, but been busy tinkering.. Had a bit of a trauma bleeding front brake after much "pumping and nipple twisting" i borrowed a mates bleeding kit, and eventually got a good brake only to find the caliper leaking between the 2 halves the next morning.... doh.. (had to strip down again) But sorted now, i hate Brakes... Spent a good few hours getting the clocks looking tidy.. Found another bezel for dented speedo.. Carefully removed the dented one.. And replaced with another from a rev counter found on e-bay. All done.. Found some suitable foam for clocks surround, to carefully stick into "stripped rubber surround" fiddly but worth the effort as it was a sqidgey mess.. Hey presto,, Went to the Stafford show for the first time last week, found a perfect side panel and a top fairing in very very good condition, only a slight battle scar around indicator hole... Result... Will not be that long before i will need a good tank, plastic, repairer and painter , noticed JBS motorcycle painters at show with some fine looking finished classic tanks on display,, very very nice looking Anyone used their services before ?? years gone by i have always used Dream machine, but i think maybe they charge a little too much..??

Not sure if you have sorted out the compliance plate issue......but be (extremely careful) in using and botching another plate. In Australia, it is a definite no no and leads to all sorts of trouble with the boys in blue may even lead to the bike being confiscated on the presumption that it is a "rebirth"
I am going through the same pronbled with one of my bikes....whereas the painter has managed to loose my compliance tag. I have approach Yamaha Australia with all the relevant details and proof etc. I have the last registration certificate, matching frame number and engine and that goes a little way in my favour. The official (and I strongly suspected legal) answer will be no....but there is an extremely off chance that they will issue me with a replacement tag. Might cost me a few quids....but seriously I am not holding my breath. I work for your version of MOT here.......and I don't think tha I will like their answer. In OZ, they are very very strong on anything that may remotely resemble a rebirth.
My advice to you is go to Yamaha and hope to find someone with a sympathetic ear.

Good old Norbo ;D Sunsetrider, Yes i understand about botched plates, wrong numbers etc... but in England in my experience no one seems to check them, even during a Mot ive never seen them checked. i am very tempted to put any old plate on just to make it look right..... my log book matches the frame number stamped on headstock so at least i could prove that!!! If anyone did question the wrong plate i could just tell the truth about why i put it there. I think asking Yamaha for a replacement would be a waste of energy, but i could be wrong.

Beautiful rebuild....wish mine to be half as good and I'd be a happy man.
Manufacturers an be a funny lot. I am lucky that I have found two top guys in Yam Aust. Still not guaranteed a positive outcome, but I am surprised and heartened by the fact that they would give it some consideration and hopefully attain a good result for me. I give them 10out of 10 for that. They have also helped me out with original Workshop manuals and other bits and pieces and seem keen to help out with people like me and restoration projects. Time will tell.
Keep the pics happening. It is real inspiration to people like myself. Makes you wan to try that little harder when you see others such as yourself attaining such great results.
