I have just rebuilt my motor, new crank / pistons rebore and all seals.
problem i have is that i now have a small oil leak underneath the motor. its comming from either side of the bottom case and is not from the studs. its comming from a machine recess either side looks like there are small core plugs in there any ideas before i pull it to bits yet again....
Regards

Hey thanks for the reply... The bike / engine is clean and is not from any oil seal / gasket that i can see. Got me baffled... Pics of were the leak is. note the leak is from both sides of the case in the same place. These pics show where i plugged the recess with instant gasket as a temp measure.. Are there ment to be little core plugs in hear or some sort of seal ? Hear it is running

Very strange seems to line up with the holes in the main bearing journals, but i didn't think these went all the way through.

just had a look at my spare cases. as nik said there are dimples that line up with the blind holes in the crank bearing journals which look like something to do with casting/machining and are solid cast alloy by the looks of them so unfortunately think your casings are goosed.

Do the holes internally line up with the holes externally where the casings were leaking? Are the holes just plugged off or is it solid metal, if they are plugs it may be leaking when the crank cases are pressurised. Anyone know what these holes under the main bearings are for anyway

try putting some oil in the hole and blow compressed air from the other side and see if it bubbles i looked at my spare cases and they look the same .i cant see why oil should leak from there one the bearing covers the hole two theres only 2 stroke in oil in the crank housing also the hole is not at the lowest point are you sure its not leaking from some where else

when the motor was in the bike the oil was leaking down from inside these holes and was dry eveywhere else. i tried compressed air on one side and leak detector fluid on the other and no bubble.. im at a loss

Hi
To me that looks like it was originally cast with holes there and then had some plugs fitted.
I would think it would be possible to machine up some replacement plugs and fit them (presume with warm cases and frozen plugs). Possibly tig weld them in if you are worried.
All the best

Same thing happened to my F2 2 years ago I had my casings blasted during an engine rebuild. Straight away I had a slight oil leak as described above but only on the offside. Never got to the bottom of the problem just thrashed it all the same. Some days it's worse than others but never more than a dribble slowly tracing it's way up the underside of the offside exhaust. Great photos/films by the way. I would like to see some more of the bike. It looks well nice

Back on the road, bit of epoxy in the recesses, heated the jornals and added some thread lock, cleaned when cooled, all good now.

Yeah I was going to suggest getting them really clean and putting in some epoxy.
