Hi all. I have thought long and hard about doing this. I've been in contact with my painter for the last 3 days. He has not offered me any compensation for the work done. He has had the chance to redeem himself. It all started when I wanted my wheels painted and polished. He also offered to do my tank and panels. He was recommended. I will let the pics do the talking....... img9.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=lctank048.jpgHis name is AL WEST and is based in STOURBRIDGE/DUDLEY/BIRMINGHAM goes under WEST POLISHING AND PAINTINGSorry if I have offended anybody for doing this. Nick

I have given him over £600.
Thats for forklegs/peg hangers to be polished.
Wheels to be painted/polished and then the tank and panels to be done.
I'M NOT HAPPY.

i'm in the trade looks like your wheels have no acid etch primer on them hence why the paint has peeled off when de masking and looks like very poor prep work all round and thats 99% of the job. very poor indeed i would send the boys round.

If he refuses a refund/re-paint get em on eBay with all necessary pics and info.... potential buyers comments pretty much cover most things

for what its worth, so long as you have given him a chance to sort it out and he's done nothing about it, then i think you were right to warn others. I'd be gutted (and mightily pi**ed off) if i went to him and paid £600 for that work.

Im so sad to see this, this part of a build should be the best not that mess of a job. Name and shame and go to the small claims court. you need your money back, simple.

did he actually do the work or did he get a mate to do it? that is not a job a professional would do or even let his name be attached to it in any shape or form,

can you break down exactly how much each job cost individualy?
the annoying thing is that cowboys like this are banging through lots of work and making alot of money as believe it or not this is acceptable to most people.
i dont do any private work any more but i wouldnt dream of giving a job back in that state. decent paint work is expensive but £600 should get you a far better job than that.

Sorry to hear that Nick, it's not much use to you now but I use a guy near Kidderminster - at Arnold's Fairings and his work is pretty bloomin' good. Let me know if you want the lowdown , ATB Steve.

whats it like round the petrol filler neck? idealy it should be bare metal 5-6mm round the top so the cap seats on metal and not paint. also in order for the paint to stay on there it should be etch primed ,if the paint goes further than the area where the cap seals the petrol fumes will cause a big air bubble under the paint and il would have to be stripped off. on a more posative note the tank does look like it could be sorted easily with some carfull masking and basing up the crappy area's then another coat of clear. the wheels like rave suggested do appear to just be pinted over bare alloy so the only option is to strip them and start again .

re the petrol filler area would it not be possible to just flat these areas you are talking about off with wet and dry back to bare metal , being careful of the surrounding areas ?

Al West wanted to paint my panels.. I met him at a local bike meet where he advertises his work with a painted wheel he brings with him. He showed me lots of stuff he's painted, but pictures on a phone dont do it for me.. I decided to go elsewhere, looking at your panels I'm glad I did. The fella you want is Mick Neil at custom paint studio.. Check out his web site.
